Patreon is seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer for its Payments team. This role involves scaling and expanding Patreon's payment platform to ensure creators are paid effectively and on time. Responsibilities include leading development and design of Payments products and tools, driving technical design for scalable and maintainable components, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The engineer will work with frontend technologies like React, Typescript, and Next.js, and backend technologies such as Java, Python, Flask, Spring Boot, MySQL, and AWS. The position also involves mentoring other engineers and fostering a strong product-minded engineering culture. The company aims to fund the creative class and has generated billions in revenue, supporting millions of creators and fans.
Must have:

Patreon is a media and community platform where over 300,000 creators give their biggest fans access to exclusive work and experiences. We offer creators a variety of ways to engage with their communities and build a lasting business including: paid memberships, free memberships, community chats, live experiences, and selling to fans directly with one-time purchases.

We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator platform with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer to join our Payments team to support our mission.

This role is based in San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model.

About the Team

Payments is at the core of Patreon as a business, directly responsible for getting our creators paid billions of dollars a year. Our work enables creators to seamlessly grow and monetize their global audience over a multitude of channels. The team's work covers interesting product and technical challenges with both breadth and depth.

About the Role

  • You'll help scale and expand capabilities of Patreon's payment platform that helps creators get paid effectively and on time, every time

  • Lead and contribute to the development and design of the Payments products and tools to allow creators to maximize their earnings on Patreon

  • Drive technical design of components that are scalable, well tested and are easy to maintain

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to build new functionality, while maintaining a delightful user experience, motivated by passion for our shared mission.

  • Work with frontend frameworks and technologies including React, Typescript, and Next.js.

  • Work with Java, Python, Flask, Spring Boot, MySQL, and AWS on the backend, introducing other technologies when it makes sense.

  • Build a strong product-minded, engineering culture by mentoring and guiding engineers inside and outside the team

About You

  • 8+ years of software development experience

  • Strong experience with the frontend framework and technologies including React, Typescript, and Next.js

  • Strong experience with Python or a similar language and SQL

  • Solid communication skills with cross-functional team members and mentoring junior engineers

  • A track record of building systems with attention to detail, high reliability, and high throughput

  • Experience building products in the payments domain is a plus, but not a strict requirement for this role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent

Patreon operates under a hybrid work model, where employees based in office locations are expected to come into the office two days per week, excluding sick time and paid leave. At Patreon, we believe in fair and transparent pay. In compliance with New York and California pay transparency laws, we are sharing the expected salary range for this role.

The posted salary range is dependent on the location and the level. This range may encompass multiple levels within the role’s job family. The final offer will be based on candidate’s experience, skills, competencies, and geographic location, aligning with the appropriate job level within Patreon’s leveling framework. For remote employees located outside CA and NY, salary may vary based on location and local market conditions.
