Job Description

As a Staff Software Engineer - Application Stack, you will be responsible for scaling distributed applications, making architectural trade-offs using synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, writing high-quality code, and delivering solutions with speed and quality. You will develop scalable, high-volume applications that operate 24/7. You will also provide technical leadership, drive best engineering practices, and collaborate with product owners to understand requirements and deliver complete solutions. This includes ensuring service stability, reliability, scalability, and security. You will produce unit-tested and code-reviewed software, and be involved in design and implementation of microservices, API/Endpoint architectures, and event-based workflows.
Must have:
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience with GCP (or AWS)
  • Expert in Java
  • Experience in building infrastructure and web services at scale
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design
  • Proficient in microservices-based architectures
  • Experience with event-based / pub-sub workflows
  • Strong background in databases
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Good to have:
  • Proficiency in Rust, Go, Python, NodeJS
  • Experience with Kafka at scale
  • Experience with no-SQL datastores

This is a remote-based position in Mexico located in Mexico City or Monterrey.

Our team is growing and we're looking for a Staff Software Engineer - Application Stack.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, write code, and deliver with speediness and quality.
  • Develop multi-tier scalable, high-volume performing, and reliable user-centric applications that operate 24x7.
  • Provide technical leadership, driving and performing best engineering practices to initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross functional, and company-wide critical programs. Identify, leverage, and successfully evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity.
  • Work closely with product owners to understand, analyze product requirements, provide feedback, and deliver a complete solution.
  • Technical leadership of software design in meeting requirements of service stability, reliability, scalability, and security
  • Produce high quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of highly technical, hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Practical understanding and usage of GCP (or AWS) Cloud platform and services.
  • Expert in Java. Proficiency in other languages like Rust, Go, Python, NodeJS is a plus.
  • Experience in designing and building infrastructure and web services at large scale.
  • Expert knowledge of computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Strong, creative problem-solving skills and ability to abstract and share details to create meaningful articulation.
  • Proficient in design and implementation of microservices-based, API/Endpoint architectures
  • Strong background in designing and developing event-based / pub-sub workflows & data ingestion solutions. Proficiency and hands on experience with Kafka at scale (or similar) desired.    
  • Strong background in transactional databases and good understanding and experience with no-SQL datastores.   
  • Organized and goal-focused, ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
