Job Description

The Stationary Service Technician will provide comprehensive support and maintain our GenSure product, including ProGen fuel cells, at customer remote locations. This involves preventative maintenance and resolving breakdowns. The role demands highly adept technical and troubleshooting skills in electro-mechanical and industrial gas systems, along with the ability to troubleshoot electrical/mechanical prototypes onsite with minimal supervision. Exceptional customer service and communication skills are essential, as is strong knowledge of high voltage AC/DC, mechanical aptitude, and controls. The position requires working in various weather conditions.
Must have:
  • Maintenance and service of fuel cells at customer sites.
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluations to maintain customer equipment.
  • Assist in developing and performing specialized service procedures.
  • Read and decipher wiring diagrams, P&ID’s and other system documentation.
  • Provide emergency support service to customers (2-hour response time).
  • Purchase tools, equipment, and parts for customer service and support.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with customer personnel and hydrogen suppliers.
  • Provide regular feedback to service specialists regarding fuel cell performance.
  • Execute administrative duties & documentation (incident reports, service logs, inventory).
  • Abide by, exhibit and enforce safety procedures in the field or customer sites.
  • Travel as required for business needs.
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner.

Position Summary

The Stationary Service Technician will provide comprehensive support and maintain our GenSure product, inclusive of the ProGen fuel cells within the GenSure assembly currently installed at customer remote locations, including performing preventative maintenance and resolving breakdowns. The role requires highly adept technical and troubleshooting skills both with electro-mechanical and industrial gas systems. This position requires troubleshooting electrical/mechanical prototypes on site to correct operational deviations with minimal supervision by an engineer remotely.

The ideal candidate should exhibit exceptional customer service and communication skills as this role will offer a large amount of exposure to customer personnel. The selected candidate should have strong knowledge of high voltage AC and DC, mechanical aptitude, and knowledge of controls. This position requires work in both indoor and outdoor locations in all weather.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and service of fuel cells within the stationary product at customer sites.
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluations to maintain customer equipment at multiple locations.
  • Assist in development of as well as perform specialized service procedures, including field retrofits and software and hardware upgrades to existing fuel cells.
  • Read and decipher wiring diagrams, P&ID’s and other system level documentation and be able to converse both internally and externally on findings and interpretation
  • Provide emergency support service to customers as required, able to be onsite within a 2-hour response time.
  • Purchase tools, equipment, and parts for customer service and support as required.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with customer personnel hydrogen suppliers regarding aftermarket support of fuel cells.
  • Provide regular feedback to service specialists regarding fuel cell performance and field maintenance issues.
  • Execution of administrative duties & documentation, including: incident reports, service logs, inventory maintenance and site and system documentation.
  • Abide by, exhibit and enforce safety procedures in the field or customer sites.
  • Travel as required for business needs; expected to drive safely and to adhere to all traffic laws
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with technical electrical coursework
  • Three (3) or more years of direct experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting; formal training and education may be also considered in lieu of direct experience
  • Must possess a valid driver license, a clean driving record, and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on regular basis unassisted
  • Must have strong knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and be able to use electrical test equipment.
  • Certification or ability to become a certified fork lift operator is required
  • General mechanical aptitude is required
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
