Job Description

As a Lead Environment Artist at Double Eleven, you will be responsible for creating diverse game environments using cutting-edge techniques. You will lead and mentor a team of artists, coordinate art resources and schedules, and ensure high-quality asset creation for Fallout 76. This role requires strong leadership, technical proficiency in PBR, lighting, and rendering, and experience working within a 3rd party production environment. You'll collaborate with the Art Director and Production team, manage projects using JIRA, and maintain high artistic standards while delivering projects on time and within budget. Proactive problem-solving and effective communication are key for success in this role.
Must have:
  • Proven game cycle experience as a Senior or Lead Environment Artist
  • Shipped at least one title as a Senior or Lead Environment Artist
  • Experience in working with 3rd Party projects
  • Advanced understanding of 3D packages, Photoshop, Substance Designer/Painter, and Zbrush
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities

We’re looking for a  Lead Environment Artist to join our award winning team in Middlesbrough (UK), home to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline and countryside. Step into a world where your creativity shapes an iconic game. As a Lead Environment Artist at Double Eleven, you’ll be specialising in creating a diverse range of environments using all of the latest art production techniques, help schedule the creation of the assets as well as leading fellow artists on Fallout 76. Recently, we collaborated with Rockstar Games to bring Red Dead Redemption to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC, partnered with Obsidian Entertainment on Grounded: Fully Yoked Edition for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5 and we've enabled millions to conquer Minecraft Dungeons! In this role you will be helping our team to create new adventures for Vault Dwellers around the world.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work directly with Art Director and Production in coordinating art resources, schedules and priorities based on project needs
  • Provide direction to environment artists for aesthetic and technical considerations
  • Will need to fully understand and work around existing art pipelines
  • Be hands on with the art team producing benchmark assets to style and brief of project
  • Required to help lead the production and creation of art assets for the projects
  • Able to communicate and deliver assets cooperatively and independently within a 3rd Party production environment
  • Has expertise with PBR, lighting, rendering, and material authoring
  • Collaborate with Production to prioritize work, identify issues in JIRA, and escalate them to production, ensuring tasks have sufficient information
  • Reviews work for quality and carries out various supervisory responsibilities
  • Proactive in finding answers and able to clearly communicate issues and direction to the team
  • Capable of owning development of, and delivering, content while leading by example
  • Ensure the team maintains high-quality artistic results and milestone delivery, while encouraging effective communication and professionalism
  • Receives and provides critique in a professional manner
  • Able to manage and mentor career development of 3D Artists at various skill levels
  • Leading a team of talented artists 

What we’re looking for

  • Has proven game cycle experience as a Senior or Lead Environment Artist
  • Shipped at least one title as a Senior or Lead Environment Artist
  • Experience in working with 3rd Party project
  • Advanced understanding of 3D packages, Photoshop, Substance Designer/Painter, and Zbrush 
  • Passion for 3D environment art, set dressing, lighting, and texturing
  • Demonstrates excellent foundational skills, including composition, design, structure, silhouette, and colour theory
  • Excellent understanding of the environment art pipeline, dependencies, and overall scope of the project
  • Demonstrates an ability to work with detailed concept art or reference art materials
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Organised and practices good time management skills
  • Finds creative solutions for technically challenging tasks
  • Experienced in managing direct reports
  • Experienced working in an Agile workflow
