Job Description

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at Mendix, you will be responsible for building, shipping, and maintaining complex infrastructure at scale for the Mendix Public Cloud. This involves managing compute resources using Kubernetes with AWS EC2, databases using AWS RDS, storage with Amazon S3, and networking using Nginx. The role also includes working with in-house developed microservices primarily in Golang and Python for provisioning, entitlement, and upgrades. The team maintains a 24/7 infrastructure across 10 global production deployments, using Terraform, GitLab CI, Prometheus, and Datadog, and is currently migrating applications from CloudFoundry to Kubernetes.

Must have:

Experience with Kubernetes for PaaS container orchestration.
Experience with AWS EC2, RDS, and S3.
Experience with Nginx for networking.

About the Role:
In the role of Cloud Infrastructure Engineer you will be responsible for building, shipping, and maintaining complex infrastructure at scale. The Mendix Cloud hosts tens of thousands of mission-critical customer applications, powering anything from insurance quotes, to ensuring that PostNL can deliver millions of parcels on time.
Specifically, you will be part of the team running the core infrastructure powering the Mendix Public Cloud. The Mendix Public Cloud has 4 primary components:
- Compute - using Kubernetes for our PaaS container orchestration, with AWS EC2 underneath - Database - using AWS RDS - Storage - Amazon S3 - Networking - Nginx both self-hosted and Kubernetes Ingress Controller
On top of this, there are various microservices, developed in house, that handle provisioning of these services, entitlement, and upgrades. These are written primary in Golang and a couple in Python.
The core infrastructure team is responsible for this infrastructure, spread across 10 production deployments across the globe, 24/7, with 4 nines of uptime. Our infrastructure is managed using Terraform (for IaC), GitLab CI and monitored using Prometheus and Datadog. Currently we are in the process of migrating our applications from CloudFoundry to Kubernetes.
