Job Description

As a Signal Engineer III, you will design and engineer rail signal systems, including circuit designs and vital logic programming. You will work with customer specifications, railroad standards, and FRA regulations. You will mentor junior engineers and guide them in system design and programming. Your responsibilities include designing wayside and crossing systems, participating in project scope reviews, managing document control, attending project reviews, and contributing to the development of best practices. You will also have opportunities to perform other duties outside of your core responsibilities, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of signal engineering experience.
  • Experience in signal system design and programming.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and design tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Experience with ElectroLogIXS, ElectroCode, XP4.
  • Experience with SATS vital simulation software.
  • Experience with Class I freight railroad signaling.
  • Experience with I-ETMS PTC functionality.

Who will you be working with?

Wabtec’s Digital Intelligence Signaling & Systems team is a recognized industry leader in the successful delivery of complex integrated system projects. These projects involve signaling, train control, communications, and back-office solutions with a strong focus on project execution, schedule adherence, and customer satisfaction.

How will you make a difference?

As a Signal Engineer III, you will play a key role in designing and engineering rail signal systems, including circuit designs and vital logic programming. In this position, you will work closely with customer specifications, railroad standards, and FRA regulations to deliver high-quality signal solutions. You will be expected to bring your expertise to the team, mentoring junior engineers and guiding them in system design and programming.

What do we want to know about you?

You must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of signal engineering experience, with a proven track record in the rail signaling industry.

  • Experience in signal system design, vital logic programming, and wayside/crossing designs.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio) and design tools such as Microstation and AutoCAD.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to review project scope, manage deliverables, and communicate effectively with project leads and customers.

Experience with the following is preferred but not mandatory:

  • ElectroLogIXS, ElectroCode, XP4

  • SATS vital simulation software

  • Class I freight railroad signaling

  • I-ETMS PTC functionality

What will your typical day look like?

In your role, you will:

  • Design wayside and crossing systems, including vital logic controller (VLC) programming and wayside interface unit (WIU) programming.

  • Participate in the review of project scope with managers and project leads, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and project goals.

  • Review and manage document control, including maintaining versioning controls and reviewing deliverables for accuracy prior to submission.

  • Attend project reviews with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment with project objectives.

  • Guide junior engineers and contribute to the development of best practices for signal engineering tasks.

You will also have opportunities to perform other duties outside of your core responsibilities, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$67,400.00-$96,000.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
