Job Description

The Software Development Manager will be responsible for designing, developing, and modifying software applications. They will manage team assignments, ensure timely delivery of tasks, and communicate progress to leadership. They will also monitor KPIs, participate in process improvement activities, and ensure software design aligns with requirements. The role requires hands-on software development experience and experience with Agile methodologies. The candidate will also need to navigate timelines, handle scope changes and manage on-boarding.
Must have:
  • 7+ years of hands-on software development (C++ and .NET preferred)
  • Understanding of SCRUM methodology
  • 4+ years of Product Support Engineering experience
  • Ability to convert customer needs to development requirements
  • 3+ years of software development leadership experience
  • Experience with guiding team members through code review processes
  • Handling scope changes and setting proper expectations with stakeholders
Good to have:
  • 2+ years of experience in leading AGILE teams preferred
  • Possessing innovative team-building activities is a plus
  • Creativity in challenging and motivating teams
  • Some on-call experience is highly preferred

Reporting To: VP of Operations

Compensation: $109,000 - $135,000 / year



Description

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Designs, develops, and modifies quality software applications by applying fundamental computer science techniques, as assigned.
  • Follows architectural guidelines set by technical leadership and may investigate 
    best practices and innovations when developing a product.
  • Manages team assignments and ensures timely delivery of tasks; communicates team progress to leadership.
  • Escalates team concerns, anticipates roadblocks, and proposes solutions.
  • Manages process improvement rollouts and promotes cross-functional communication and involvement.
  • Monitors KPI's and executes on process activities to maintain cycle time and quality.
  • Responsible for othe n-time delivery of multiple complex tasks as set by management.
  •  Actively participates in process improvement activities and monitors process adherence.
  •  Participates in code validation reviews to ensure quality.
  •  Gathers and provides effort estimations and resource allocation recommendations to upper management.
  •  Ensures software design features/objectives are consistent with internal customer and regulatory requirements.
  •  Participates in code validation and code reviews.
  • May assist in creating shareable solutions, improving product capability, quality, and efficiency.
  • Participates in risk evaluations associated with code changes, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • You will work remotely, but you must live within a commutable distance from the office for meetings and team activities.
  • Candidates must be within commutable distance from our Schenectady, NY location. 



Skills, Knowledge, & Expertise for the job:

  • 7+ years of hands-on software development (C++ and .NET preferred)
  • Understanding of SCRUM methodology
  • 4+ years of Product Support Engineering experience
  • Ability to convert customer needs to development requirements
  • 3+ years of software development leadership experience
  • First-hand experience guiding team members through code review processes
  • Navigating the team through timelines based on commitments made.  
  • Handling scope changes and setting proper expectations with  stakeholders and parties updated
  • Planning on-boarding
  • Experience with risk management and mitigation
NICE TO HAVE
  • 2+ years of experience in leading AGILE teams preferred
  • Possessing innovative team-building activities is a plus
  • Creativity in challenging and motivating teams to exceed their expectations of themselves
  • Some on-call experience is highly preferred

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $109,000 - $128,000 annually.
