Electronic Arts is seeking a Software Engineer for the Battlefield Positive Play team to protect game titles and mitigate the impact of bad actors. This role involves collaborating with partner teams to develop new services and initiatives ensuring a fair and positive gaming experience for players. The Software Engineer will create and maintain game logic and tools to detect and prevent cheating, toxicity, exploitation, and other disruptive behaviors. Responsibilities include developing and implementing game logic, creating tools for detection and prevention using techniques like encryption and anti-debugging, and working with cross-functional leaders and analysts. The engineer will also document and escalate cases of bad actors and collaborate with various EA teams to ensure consistent enforcement of positive play policies.
Must have:
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with online gaming platforms
  • Knowledge of cheating and countermeasures
  • Proficiency in C++, C#, Java, or Python
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for gaming and positive play
Good to have:
  • Experience in AAA and/or FPS development

As a Software Engineer within the Battlefield Game Development team, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining game logic and tools that protect the game from bad actors and ensure a fair and fun gaming environment for all players. You will use various technologies and methods to prevent and detect cheaters, hackers, exploiters, griefers, and other disruptive players.

You will collaborate with the Game Ops Positive Play team, cross-functional Battlefield leaders, and other EA teams to take appropriate actions to maintain a safe, fair, and competitive Battlefield experience. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain game logic and tools that protect the game from bad actors and ensure a safe, fair, and fun gaming environment for all players across cheat, toxicity, and UGX vectors.
  • Use various technologies and methods to prevent and detect cheaters, hackers, exploiters, griefers, and other disruptive players, such as encryption, obfuscation, hashing, anti-debugging, anti-tampering, etc.
  • Develop processes, tools, and systems to act on verified bad actors according to Battlefield defined measures.
  • Document and escalate cases of confirmed bad actors to the appropriate teams for further action.
  • Work with the Game Integrity Lead (Product Role) to communicate and coordinate with other teams within EA, such as other game teams (e.g., Apex, FC), Security, Data, Legal, Customer Support, and Community Management, to ensure a consistent and effective approach to positive play enforcement.
  • Work across the Game Ops team to provide feedback and suggestions to improve the game's integrity through security, moderation, anti-toxicity, and anti-cheat systems, as well as the policies and procedures for positive play enforcement. 

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, game development, or online gaming enforcement, preferably in AAA and/or FPS development.
  • Familiarity with online gaming platforms, services, and technologies, such as EA Play, Steam, Xbox Live, PSN, Easy Anti-Cheat, etc.
  • Knowledge of common cheating, hacking, exploiting, and griefing methods and tools used in online games, as well as the countermeasures and solutions to prevent and detect them.
  • Modding experience and familiarity with the communities and tools involved.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, such as C++, C#, Java, Python, etc.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for gaming and positive play.
