The Stage Technical Artist will bridge creative and technical workflows on the virtual production stage, working with Unreal Engine and Houdini. Responsibilities include implementing and optimizing real-time assets in Unreal Engine, Houdini, and other DCCs, prepping and refining content for stage delivery with VAD teams. The role involves addressing creative notes, supporting lookdev and lighting, building procedural tools, and maintaining workflows for content ingestion and versioning. The artist will collaborate on USD workflows and resolve stage-facing issues quickly.

We’re looking for a Stage Technical Artist with strong Unreal and Houdini experience to help bridge creative and technical workflows on our virtual production stage. You’ll work at the intersection of content creation, optimization, research and real-time performance — supporting lookdev, procedural content, and on-set creative problem-solving.

You’ll collaborate closely with Stage Operators, the VAD team, and production leads to make sure content lands on stage ready-to-go, looks great, and feedback can be addressed quickly and cohesively.


Key Responsibilities

    • Implement and optimize real-time assets in Unreal Engine, Houdini, and other DCCs
    • Work with VAD teams to prep and refine content for stage delivery
    • Address creative notes in real-time using Blueprints, material work, and light touch modeling/FX
    • Support lookdev, lighting, and real-time material tuning
    • Build procedural tools and pipelines using Houdini and Houdini Engine
    • Maintain and improve workflows for content ingestion, optimization, and versioning
    • Collaborate on USD workflows, PDG pipelines, and content version control
    • Troubleshoot and resolve stage-facing issues quickly under pressure

Qualifications

    • Proficiency in Unreal Engine (Blueprints, Materials, Lighting, Level Optimization)
    • Strong experience with Houdini — procedural systems, PDG, Houdini Engine
    • Understanding of performance tuning for real-time environments
    • Experience with USD pipelines and stage-ready asset prep
    • Creative eye and ability to balance quality with technical needs
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure on-set environment
    • Clear communicator who can translate between creative and technical teams
$65 - $70 an hour
This salary range is specific to applicants applying to our position in Los Angeles, California. To determine your base salary, we consider your qualifications, skills, and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary outside of this range and will also be dependent on your location.
