GoFundMe is a global community of over 150 million people who come together every day with the common purpose of helping one another. Our mission is to help people help each other through our best-in-class technology. In 2022, GoFundMe joined together with Classy, a leading nonprofit fundraising software company that enables nonprofits to connect supporters with the causes they care about. Together, GoFundMe and Classy have empowered people and organizations to raise more than $30 billion since 2010. Our vision is to become the most helpful place in the world.

Join us! As the Director of Product for Payments, you will lead the strategy and execution for GoFundMe and Classy’s core payments capabilities, ensuring a seamless and secure experience for donors, fundraisers, nonprofits, and businesses. You will define the vision for our payments platform, driving the development of innovative, scalable solutions that span multiple global markets and payment methods. Collaborating with engineering, design, and many other teams, you’ll ensure our payment ecosystem remains reliable, compliant, and optimized for experience and conversion while enabling innovative ways to help people help each other. Your leadership and technical expertise will be instrumental in building a frictionless, trustworthy experience that enables our community to make a greater impact on the world.

Candidates considered for this position will be located or willing to relocate to San Francisco, CA. This is a hybrid role with expectations to go into the SF office 3x per week

The Job…

  • Lead the vision and strategy for the payments product line: Define a compelling roadmap that enhances payment flows, improves reliability, and builds critical payments infrastructure with clear benefits to our end customers
  • Own the end-to-end payments platform roadmap: Drive features related to transaction processing, payment gateway integrations, fraud prevention, currency support, settlements, and payout operations across B2B and B2C contexts.
  • Build next-generation intelligence: Leverage data from GoFundMe and Classy to develop AI-driven tools and machine learning models that optimize payment authorization rates, detect fraudulent activities, and enhance donor trust.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner closely with engineering, design, analytics, risk, compliance, and customer support teams to make informed decisions on product direction, technical trade-offs, and user experience enhancements.
  • Champion the customer: Understand the needs of donors, nonprofits, and businesses through user research, data analysis, and market insights. Ensure that every payment touchpoint is intuitive, transparent, and aligned with user expectations.
  • Ensure regulatory and compliance alignment: Work closely with privacy, legal, and compliance teams to adhere to industry standards (PCI DSS) and global regulations, prioritizing user security and trust.
  • Drive a data-driven culture: Use analytics, A/B testing, and user feedback to prioritize initiatives, measure product success, and continuously iterate for growth and improvement.
  • Inspire and mentor product managers: Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture, developing a high-performing team committed to delivering impact and supporting our customers’ missions.
  • Navigate complexity with confidence: Provide clarity in ambiguous situations, set clear priorities, and maintain focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.

You…

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years leading payment and / or fintech product teams.
  • Proven track record in scaling payment platforms, including experience with payment gateways, merchant acquirers, and global payment methods.
  • Technical proficiency to engage with engineering teams on payment infrastructure, security, and compliance challenges.
  • Experience serving both B2B and B2C markets, understanding the nuances that drive donor, nonprofit, and business stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Strong analytical skills, using metrics and qualitative insights to inform product decisions, optimize payment funnels, and improve authorization rates.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence executives, partners, and customers, and represent the company on stage at industry events.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments—bringing order, alignment, and focused execution to the team.
  • Leadership experience mentoring teams, setting strategic direction, and creating a culture of innovation, trust, and continuous learning.

Why you’ll love it here...

  • Be a part of a mission-driven organization that positively impacts tens of millions of lives every year.
  • Be a Leader in a high-impact product organization and drive business transformation through product.
  • Collaborate with a diverse, passionate, and talented team in a fast-paced and innovative environment.
