Job Description

The Opportunity: 

This role leads Mattel internal space strategy, space insights projects, and modular execution for the Walmart account.  A proactive, solution-oriented approach is vital to progress in the fast-paced Toy Industry.  You will need the executive presence to navigate frequent internal senior-level collaborations with VP of Walmart, Sales management, and VP of Omni Retail Marketing.  Externally, you will partner with Walmart’s Category Advisor, Merchant and Modular Planning teams critical to our business success. This job requires previous leadership experience, ability to understand and leverage data to influence customer decisions, storytelling skills, and the drive to successfully execute merchandising aligned with Mattel’s strategic vision.

What Your Impact Will Be:

Retail: design product mix and placement strategies that maximize performance

  • Build Modulars for key Mattel brands across seasonal milestones
  • Evaluate space to sales performance, highlighting gaps and opportunities
  • Provide cutdown assortment plan recommendations to sales team and merchants to optimize modular versions beyond main set​​​​​​​

Brand development: strategize with marketing teams to grow Mattel brands

  • Formulate productive merchandising recommendations aligned with Mattel strategies
  • Proactively help marketing trim items and focus line to maximize productivity and listing potential
  • Reinforce Walmart buyer’s requested assortment and packaging preferences at Mattel line design sessions

Organizational Intelligence: design interactive reports that elevate retail analytics

  • Synthesize engaging reports using tools including Tableau and Alteryx
  • Bring Space metrics into Mattel’s data infrastructure to enhance other teams’ reporting
  • Clearly highlight opportunities and gaps by analyzing and distributing weekly reports
  • Analyze competitive space at top retailers and present key findings

Leadership: lead a small, dedicated team focused on achieving Walmart Modular excellence

  • Effectively manage, develop, and engage direct team for high performing results for the Mattel and Walmart partnership
  • Lead Insights generation and template creation across key milestones
  • Successfully build relationships and influence stakeholders (both internally and externally) to support key objectives and outcomes for the business

  • Ability to explain highly complex topics to audiences with varying levels of knowledge

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, adhere to schedules and follow up accordingly

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 6+ years of experience in analytics, analytic programming, category management, trade marketing, merchandising, sales forecasting/analysis, consumer and/or sales research
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint - expert knowledge of Excel a plus
  • Experience with analyzing data from Retailer POS and/or syndicated data a plus
  • Tableau report-creation experience a plus
  • Familiarity with analytic programming, Alteryx and/or SQL a plus
  • Expertise and tool creation know-how with JDA Space Planning or similar space planning tool a plus

The annual base salary range for this position is between $108,000 and $134,000
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
