Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be working closely with web and mobile app API clients and product teams to develop secure and reliable APIs for Xoom, a PayPal product that enables international money transfers. You will be involved in deploying applications, diagnosing runtime systems, and contributing to the next generation of APIs. This role requires designing, coding, testing, and deploying features/functions, collaborating with other developers, and partnering with product managers. The candidate will also participate in code reviews, contribute to automated tests, and monitor applications for high availability and reliability. They will also work with product and design teams to develop new ideas and explore new opportunities to foster innovation and communicate effectively with all non-technical stakeholders (Product, Design, Business, etc)

  • Designing and building web services/microservices in a commercial setting

Job Summary: What you need to know about the role You will work intimately with web and mobile app API clients, product, and platform teams to create secure, reliable APIs that enable users to send money abroad with Xoom, a PayPal product. You will actively be deploying new applications, diagnosing runtime systems, and putting that knowledge to use making the next generation of APIs.   • Work with Product and other Engineering teams to improve the world standard remittance experience
  • Standardize user experience across many application modalities

Your day-to-day

In your day-to-day role you will

  • Design, code, test and deploy features/functions delivered via applications and services.
  • Collaborate frequently with other developers to design and implement the required solutions.
  • Partner with product managers to deliver high quality solutions on time.
  • Participate in formal and informal code reviews to ensure code quality.
  • Actively contribute to our automated test suite to enable speedy and reliable continuous integration.
  • Leverage the latest observability tools to monitor our applications and services are highly available and reliable.
  • Be a champion of high-performance, secure, and reliable software services.
  • Work with product and design teams to develop new ideas and explore new opportunities to foster innovation.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all non-technical stakeholders (Product, Design, Business, etc)

Preferred Qualification:

What do you need to bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience of 6+ years).
  • Proficient in back-end development using Java EE technologies (e.g. Java language, application servers, servlet containers, Docker).
  • Experience with HTTP, REST API's and competent designing and building web services/microservices in a commercial setting.
  • Experience with observability tools for monitoring and debugging live applications
