Pipeworks Studios seeks a Technical Game Designer I to contribute to an exciting Unreal-based AAA project. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining technical systems and tools supporting gameplay; creating detailed design documentation; collaborating with engineers and other staff; and communicating with external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong collaboration skills, Unreal 5 experience (strong Blueprint skills), FPS/3rd person action experience, and proficiency in scripting/programming. This role involves actively participating in project contributions, managing tasks independently, and refining gameplay mechanics.

Description

Join Pipeworks Studios and make your mark on the gaming industry as a Technical Game Designer. Refine gameplay mechanics via playbooks to propagate throughout an exciting Unreal-based AAA project.

Based in the vibrant tech hub of Eugene, Oregon, with the flexibility of full remote work, this role is your chance to take UI from concept to implementation for a global audience. The ideal candidate for the Technical Game Designer I is an experienced professional with a design and/or engineering background focused on gameplay development. The Technical Game Designer I contributes to the project offering consultation/review as a direct contributor. This includes collaborating with stakeholders and clients across disciplines and projects.



Day To Day

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate as a project contributor, collaboratively creating, communicating, and managing tasks independently
  • Design, implement, and maintain technical systems and tools to support game design
  • Provide detailed and iterative design documentation to support the development lifecycle
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technical staff to ensure the successful implementation of game mechanics and features
  • Communicate with external stakeholders, including clients, per project requirements
  • Occasional travel, per project requirements

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Must Haves
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Experience with designing complex systems and/or tools
  • Unreal 5 experience with strong blueprint skills
  • FPS and/or 3rd person action experience
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in scripting and programming languages
  • Familiarity w/ Jira, Confluence, or equivalent task tracking and collaborative environments
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both written and verbal
  • Show exceptional deductive reasoning skills
  • Work with and lead teams, including taking direction and inspiring others
  • Assist in solving problems in resourceful ways
  • Organize and communicate complex systems and data with an attention to detail
  • Work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Be flexible to changing priorities
  • Able to work well and collaborate with remote teams
  • Experience working as a level designer or with level designers

Education & Experience Required
  • 3+ years relevant work experience in Game Design or Engineering
  • 1-2+ professional titles shipped as a game designer or engineer
