Larian Studios seeks an RPG Designer to contribute to upcoming projects. Responsibilities include designing narrative and gameplay content, ensuring logical narrative flow, creating quest design solutions, conducting progress reviews, and updating documentation. The ideal candidate will take ownership of their area, collaborate effectively, understand player motivations, and possess strong narrative and pacing skills. The role requires excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability within an agile environment. Experience with game engines or programming is a plus. Fluency in English is essential.

As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for an RPG Designer to join the worldbuilding team and help us in crafting the high caliber games our fans have come to expect.

As an RPG Designer you will be working with a team that shapes the world, stories and characters that make for memorable adventures. Working closely with the other departments, the RPG Designer helps transform narrative into fun gameplay that reacts to the player's actions in an impactful way.

Responsibilities

• Design narrative and gameplay content within an area of the game, take ownership of the area throughout implementation, and responsibility for its final quality.
• Ensure logical and well paced narrative flow in the combination of situations, dialogs and areas.
• Create solutions for quest design problems and follow their implementation.
• Conduct progress reviews for your area, gathering feedback from the other departments and working with them to reach the optimal finished state.
• Write and update documentation, communicate changes to the teams.
• Take a holistic approach when implementing changes to your region. Every decision will impact a range of departments, so you’ll need to take their limits and priorities into account.
• Understand player motivations and expectations.

Requirements

• The ability to take the lead of a creative element of the game, communicate with all parties involved, gather feedback, and sink their teeth into it until it's finished.
• The ability to come up with creative solutions to new problems, or identify issues that don't require reinventing the wheel.
• A strong understanding of narrative beats and pacing.
• The ability to imagine what it's like seeing the game for the first time every single day, you understand player expectations.
• The ability to observe players and learn from their actions and filter their feedback.
• A high level of digital literacy and can adapt quickly to new software and tools (G Suite, Confluence, Jira etc.)
• Attention to detail and undaunted by complexity and change
• A great collaborator, has excellent organization and communication skills.
• Comfortable in an agile environment with evolving needs

• Has handled game engines, has programming skills or implementation experience.
• Has shipped games with a narrative focus
• Has extensive experience as both a player and maker of RPGs. 
• Familiarity with Larian’s games and capable of emulating our distinctive style.

En tant que Concepteur de Jeux de Rôle, vous travaillerez avec une équipe qui façonne le monde, les histoires et les personnages à l’origine d’aventures mémorables. En étroite collaboration avec les autres départements, le Concepteur de Jeux de Rôle contribue à transformer la narration en jouabilité amusante qui réagit de manière significative aux actions du joueur.

Responsabilités

• Concevoir le contenu narratif et de jouabilité dans une zone particulière du jeu, en prenant en charge cette zone tout au long de sa mise en œuvre et en garantissant sa qualité finale.
• Assurer un flux narratif cohérent et bien rythmé dans la combinaison de situations, de dialogues et de zones.
• Créer des solutions aux problèmes de design des quêtes et en assurer le suivi de l'implémentation.
• Organiser des revues d’avancement pour votre zone, recueillir des retours des autres départements et travailler avec eux pour atteindre l’état final optimal.
• Rédiger et mettre à jour la documentation, tout en informant les équipes des changements.
• Adopter une approche globale lors de la mise en œuvre de modifications. 
En tenant compte de l’impact sur divers départements, ainsi que de leurs contraintes et priorités.
• Comprendre les motivations et les attentes des joueurs.

Exigences

• La capacité de diriger un élément créatif du jeu, de communiquer efficacement avec toutes les parties impliquées, de recueillir des retours et de s’y investir jusqu’à sa finalisation.
• L’aptitude à trouver des solutions créatives à de nouveaux problèmes, ou à identifier les problèmes ne nécessitant pas une réinvention totale.
• Une solide compréhension des temps forts narratifs et du rythme.
• L’aptitude à se mettre dans la peau d’un joueur découvrant le jeu pour la première fois chaque jour, en comprenant les attentes des joueurs.
• La capacité à observer les joueurs, à apprendre de leurs actions et à filtrer leurs retours.
• Une grande aisance numérique et la capacité à s’adapter rapidement à de nouveaux logiciels et outils (G Suite, Confluence, Jira, etc.)
• Un souci du détail et une résistance face à la complexité et au changement.
• Une excellente aptitude à la collaboration, ayant des compétences organisationnelles et de communication exceptionnelle.
• À l'aise dans un environnement agile avec des besoins évolutifs.

Atouts appréciables

• Expérience avec les moteurs de jeu, compétences en programmation ou expérience en implémentation.
• Participation à la création de jeux axés sur le récit.
• Expérience approfondie en tant que joueur et créateur de jeux de rôle. 
• Familiarité avec les jeux de Larian et capacité à capturer notre style distinctif.
