As a Technical Designer II, you will be working on a AAA espionage-action project in Unreal Engine 5. You will be collaborating with the Level Design team to ensure smooth gameplay delivery, including scripted sequences and interactive elements. You will be responsible for prototyping gameplay behaviors, implementing content, and debugging scripts. You will also be working to bridge the gap between design and engineering. This role involves pushing the quality of gameplay. The studio is based in Eugene, Oregon, with the flexibility of full remote work.
Must have:
  • Proficiency with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, especially Blueprint scripting.
  • Experience implementing gameplay logic for missions, encounters, or events.
  • Solid understanding of scripting, debugging, and runtime behavior.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable adapting to technical constraints and design changes.
  • Familiarity with C++ and scripting extensions in Unreal.
  • Familiarity with version control and bug tracking tools.
Good to have:
  • Experience with espionage-action, first-person, or narrative-heavy titles.

Description

Pipeworks Studios is looking for a skilled Technical Designer II to join the team on a high-profile AAA espionage-action project built in Unreal Engine 5. In this role, you'll work closely with the Level Design team to support final gameplay delivery, ensuring that scripted sequences, gameplay logic, and interactive elements function as intended in polished environments. 

You’ll act as a technical bridge between design and engineering—prototyping gameplay behaviors, implementing content, debugging scripts, and helping designers bring their vision to life within the constraints of the engine. This is an ideal role for a technical-minded designer who thrives on collaboration, problem-solving, and pushing the quality of moment-to-moment gameplay.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day: 
  • Support the Level Design team in delivering final gameplay, including scripting, logic implementation, and technical setup. 
  • Work in Unreal Engine 5 using Blueprints and other tools to implement mission flow, encounters, and scripted moments. 
  • Debug gameplay issues.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and QA to ensure stability, performance, and quality of gameplay sequences. 
  • Help define and improve workflows and tools used by the design team. 
  • Communicate technical constraints and implementation strategies clearly across departments. 


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Must-Have: 
  • Strong proficiency with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, especially Blueprint scripting and gameplay systems integration. 
  • Experience implementing or supporting gameplay logic for missions, combat encounters, AI behaviors, or interactive events. 
  • Solid understanding of scripting fundamentals, debugging workflows, and runtime behavior. 
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. 
  • Comfortable adapting to technical constraints and iterative design changes. 
  • Familiarity with C++ and scripting extensions in Unreal. 
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Perforce), bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira), and collaborative documentation (e.g., Confluence). 

Nice-to-Have: 
  • Experience supporting espionage-action, first-person, or narrative-heavy titles. 
  • A passion for delivering cinematic, tightly tuned gameplay moments. 

Education & Experience 
  • 4–7 years of relevant experience in game design or technical design roles.
  • At least one shipped AA or AAA title in a technical implementation capacity. 
  • Comfortable working with remote and distributed teams.
