WebMD Health Services is seeking an Illustration and Animation Intern to join their User Experience team. The ideal candidate will have 0-3 years of experience in digital illustration and/or animation, be a strong visual storyteller, a quick learner, and a collaborative team member. This role involves creating high-quality digital illustrations, icons, and visual assets for their well-being platform and marketing content, matching and extending existing illustration styles, and developing 2D animations and motion graphics for in-app interactions and onboarding flows. The intern will use tools like Rive to create lightweight, scalable animations and collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers to ensure visuals align with user needs and product goals. Responsibilities also include contributing to visual concepts, ensuring brand guideline adherence, and supporting senior team members.
Must have:
- Portfolio with strong digital illustration and animation
- Ability to match existing illustration style
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn
- Strong communication skills
Good to have:
- Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma
- Experience with After Effects/Rive or similar tools
- Experience creating micro-interactions or motion graphics
- Understanding of visual storytelling and motion in UX

Position Description:
WebMD Health Services is seeking an Illustration and Animation Intern to join our User Experience team. The ideal candidate has 0–3 years of experience in digital illustration and/or animation, is a great visual storyteller, a quick learner, and a collaborative team member! The Illustration and Animation Intern will work with Designers and the UX/UI Design Manager to help bring our product experiences to life with engaging visuals and animations that align with our established style.
This is a full-time hybrid position, with a mix of remote work and in-person collaboration at our Portland, Oregon office.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Create high-quality digital illustrations, icons, and visual assets for our well-being platform and marketing content.
- Match and extend our existing illustration style to ensure a cohesive visual identity across products.
- Develop 2D animations and motion graphics for in-app interactions, onboarding flows, and learning experiences.
- Use Rive or similar tools to create lightweight, scalable animations for interactive and mobile environments.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and developers to ensure visuals are aligned with user needs and product goals.
- Contribute to mood boards, visual concepts, and asset iterations during the creative process.
- Ensure all visual content adheres to brand guidelines, accessibility standards, and is optimized for mobile.
- Support more senior team members with ongoing projects and iterate based on feedback.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a program in Illustration, Animation, Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong digital illustration and animation work—especially for mobile or digital products.
- Ability to match and build upon an existing illustration style.
- Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and strong communication skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, After Effects/Rive/or similar.
- Experience creating micro-interactions or motion graphics using Rive, Lottie, or similar.
- Understanding of how visual storytelling and motion enhance user experience.
- Interest in health, well-being, or behavior change is a plus!
