Job Description

As an Engineer, Thermal Controls and Calibration at Scout Motors, you will be part of an iconic brand revolutionizing the electric pick-up truck and rugged SUV market. Your responsibilities include coordinating and refining control algorithms, performing calibration of thermal and climate functionality, and ensuring industry standards compliance. You will use modeling and simulation tools, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and conduct thorough testing. This role requires in-office attendance 3-4 days a week, based in Novi, Michigan. You will be involved in leading issue resolution for thermal calibration and software issues. The role offers a chance to build lasting products for an iconic brand.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related engineering fields.
  • 5+ years of experience in high voltage battery controls system development.
  • Proficiency in control theory, algorithm development and simulation tools.
  • Experience in calibration tools and methodologies.
  • Strong programming skills in languages like C, C++, or Python.
  • Familiarity with thermal management systems and associated hardware.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, LIN) and hardware interfaces.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations pertaining to battery technology.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient with minimal direction.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Coordinate and refine control algorithms for state-of-the-art electric vehicle thermal management systems.
  • Perform calibration of thermal and climate functionality to deliver optimal performance for the customer and vehicle.
  • Ensure that thermal management systems meet industry standards and regulatory requirements for safety, performance, and environmental impact.
  • Utilize modeling and simulation tools to validate control system designs and predict performance under various operating conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate calibration solutions into the overall vehicle architecture.
  • Conduct thorough testing, validation, and optimization of control algorithms.
  • Participate in calibration development trips.
  • Lead issue resolution for thermal calibration and/or software issues.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
  • The responsibilities of this role require 3-4 days attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in high voltage battery controls system development, preferably in the automotive or energy storage industry.
  • Proficiency in control theory, algorithm development, and simulation tools.
  • Experience in calibration tools and methodologies.
  • Strong programming skills in languages like C, C++, or Python.
  • Familiarity with thermal management systems and associated hardware.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, LIN) and hardware interfaces.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations pertaining to battery technology.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient with minimal direction to meet customer deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with colleagues and suppliers around the world
  • Ability to read, interpret and generate engineering drawings and specifications.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $110,000.00 - $135,000.00
