Zoox is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to leverage data from autonomous vehicles and operations to ensure autonomy and service readiness, providing a foundation for strategic decision-making. The role involves developing and implementing the next generation of data pipelines for visibility as the company scales its autonomous mobility service. You will define the system and build pipelines to foster a data-first culture. The team offers access to unique datasets in the autonomous vehicle industry and is open to all skill levels. Responsibilities include owning foundational data artifacts, mentoring direct reports, designing and building data pipelines and models, contributing to data architecture and governance, defining data consumption for insights, establishing data integrity monitoring, and partnering with teams on data consumption patterns and best practices.
Must have:
- Experience managing and growing teams of 5+ members
- Ability to prioritize development work and build cross-functional alignment
- Experience designing scalable and maintainable data pipelines
- Expert level SQL and Data Modeling skill
- Strong experience in data warehousing
- Strong experience in distributed processing framework
- Strong data operations mindset
Good to have:
- Experience with Scala
- Experience with workflow orchestration like Airflow
- Experience with large scale streaming platforms like Kafka
- Familiarity with experimentation platforms

Job Details
The Data team leverages data from our autonomous vehicles and operations to determine autonomy and service readiness. We provide the foundation for strategic decision-making at Zoox. You will develop and implement the next generation of our data pipeline to ensure visibility into our business as we scale toward the launch of an autonomous mobility service. You will define the system and build the pipeline to enable Zoox to develop and scale with a data-first culture.
You will join a diverse, experienced team with rapidly growing scope and responsibility while also having access to one of the most unique data sets in the autonomous vehicle industry. Hence, we are seeking all skill levels to grow with the team.
In this role, you will:
- Own foundational data artifacts for the business domain
- Mentor, coach and advocate for direct reports
- Design and build pipelines and data models to support analytics for business domain
- Contribute to design of data architecture and data governance for the entire data platform
- Define and execute on how high value key data asset is consumed to generate valuable insights by data scientists, engineers, and business users
- Establish robust data integrity and quality monitoring so that company-wide metrics are based on accurate data
- Partner with engineering and product teams to define data consumption patterns and establish best practices
Qualifications
- Experience managing and growing teams of 5+ members
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize development work and build cross-functional alignment
- Good experience designing scalable and maintainable data pipelines
- Expert level SQL and Data Modeling skill, strong experience in data warehousing and distributed processing framework
- Strong data operations mindset and opinions on next-generation warehouse tools
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with Scala
- Experience with workflow orchestration like Airflow, large scale streaming platforms like Kafka
- Familiarity with or exposure to experimentation platforms
$217,000 - $260,000 a year
Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
