Job Description

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll be a pivotal part of the team, shaping data foundations at Fortis. You will collaborate with the broader data team to create high-quality analytics products that generate insights. You will be involved in designing data models, building data pipelines, and enabling game teams with data-driven solutions. You will be responsible for digging into datasets, identifying trends, and optimizing data structures for optimal performance.
Must have:
  • Data engineering experience in high-volume, low-latency environments
  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Kafka and Spark
  • Expert in Python for API integration and data manipulation
  • Advanced SQL: Aggregate and window functions, joins and CTEs
  • Strong understanding of database design for optimal performance
  • Ability to ensure high data quality, accuracy and completeness
  • Proficient with GitHub for version control and collaboration
Good to have:
  • Experience with Clickhouse
  • Familiarity with AWS (S3, Glacier, Kinesis, Redshift)
  • Experience with large datasets
  • Experience with Looker
  • Experience in the gaming industry

About the role

Join our dynamic Data Engineering team as a Senior Data Engineer, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the foundation of data at Fortis. Partner with the broader Data team to deliver high-quality analytics products that unlock insights, fuel better decision-making, and drive the success of our games and cross-functional teams—including Analytics, QA, Community, and Player Support. You’ll play a role in helping to define the future of our data platform—including data schemas, and self-serve tools—while also empowering game teams by enabling them to become data driven. You’ll dig into rich data sources to surface insights, identify trends, and unlock new opportunities.

What you’ll achieve

  • Work with the data engineering team to build data processing pipelines on the Fortis Data Platform
  • Partner with Analytics to design, build and maintain data models in response to end customer needs
  • Examine, deconstruct and deep dive into large, unstructured datasets in order to identify useful and relevant information
  • Build and optimise data structures that underpin our Analytical dashboards to ensure optimal performance, timeliness and quality of information provided to stakeholders)

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Demonstrated experience as a Data engineer in a high volume, low latency environment; video games experience is a plus
  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Kafka, Spark
  • Expert in Python for API integration, data manipulation and enrichment
  • Advanced SQL: Aggregate and window functions, joins and CTEs
  • Strong understanding of database design for optimal performance;  experience with Clickhouse would be a bonus
  • Proven ability to ensure high standards of data quality, accuracy and completeness
  • Proficient with GitHub for version control and collaboration
  • Familiarity with AWS (S3, Glacier, Kinesis, Redshift), large datasets, Looker, and gaming industry
