Job Description

The Solutions Engineer at Fortra acts as a trusted advisor, identifying optimal solutions for customer needs. This role involves collaborating with sales representatives, understanding customer requirements, and demonstrating product capabilities. Responsibilities include designing solution proposals, conducting product evaluations, addressing technical objections, and delivering presentations to various levels, including executives. The role also entails estimating implementation services, working with partners, participating in enablement activities, and representing the company at industry events. Occasional travel is required.
Must have:
  • 3+ years IT experience in presales, consultancy, or support.
  • Excellent oral presentation and public relations skills.
  • General knowledge of technologies like SQL, databases, and web services.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
Good to have:
  • Experience with MFT or job scheduling solutions is a plus.

Fortra’s Solutions Engineer's, also known as Presales Consultant/Engineer or Sales Engineer, are known as the trusted advisor's that expertly identify optimal solutions for our customers needs. It is an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals possessing strong technical skills, openness and team collaboration, and excellent presentation skills that help drive sales activities and business development. 

You will work with leading companies for our global company, providing guidance during the sales process by identifying customers technical and business requirements and demonstrating product capabilities. You'll also be responsible for designing a solution proposal that is the best for the customer. Solutions Engineering is a fantastic role to interact and learn from multiple teams including sales, business partners, professional services, marketing, technical support and product development. Some of these activities may require traveling occasionally to meet customers and partners on their premises, as well as participating in tradeshows or events.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Be a team with sales representatives and work together on any activities with prospective customers.
  • Conduct “pain discovery” processes to understand the customer needs and articulate a solution that best addresses that need.
  • Develop, present and deliver high-impact solution demonstrations.
  • Be the owner for our customer’s evaluation process of the offered products and solutions.
  • Proof of value or concept sessions are critical to our success.
  • Detect technical and functional objections from the prospective customer during the sales process, be creative finding solutions, and work together with the appropriate team for remediation.
  • Build and defend proposals to customers, articulating the benefits of our company as the best solution that addresses that need to all levels, including “C” level executives.
  • Estimate implementation services for successful onboarding.
  • Work together on partners activities like visits, demos, proposals, events and others.
  • Participate in partner enablement activities like tech training and functional enablement.
  • Deliver technical presentations and responds to technical questions during sales calls.
  • Represent the Company at Trade Shows, User Group events, Conferences, and Virtual webinar events.
  • Serve as the market expert on products, from how customers use them, to how the competition positions against them, to how the field sells and services them.
  • Occasional travel onsite required for trade shows, partner, or customer meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four-year Degree in a technical field, ideally Computer Science or IT is preferred, or adequate career experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in IT on at least one of the following areas: technical presales, technical consultancy, development or technical support activities.
  • Excellent oral presentation skills, public relations skills, and the ability to educate and train in a technical environment.
  • Technical background is needed: General knowledge on several technologies such as: SQL, databases, operating systems, email, web, FTP, web services, JSON, XML, cloud providers, big data, or encryption. Previous experience in development or scripting, in any languages.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally. In a normal year, you might expect to travel 1-3 times per quarter.
  • Previous experience in MFT or job scheduling solutions is a plus.
