The SMB Commercial Manager, US Buy Now Pay Later will oversee PayPal’s Buy Now Pay Later product and its penetration into front & backbook SMB merchants. This role involves managing the P&L impacts, developing strategies to drive merchant adoption of BNPL, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. Key responsibilities include increasing BNPL penetration, creating scorecards, improving PayPal’s BNPL position, and managing partner contracts. The manager will also work to ensure wide distribution of BNPL messaging and manage relationships with internal stakeholders. This role requires strong communication, leadership, and project management skills to drive commercial success for PayPal’s BNPL business.

We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Job Summary:

The SMB Commercial Manager, US Buy Now Pay Later will oversee PayPal’s Buy Now Pay Later product and its penetration into front & backbook SMB merchants. This person will be responsible for managing the P&L impacts of success with penetration % as the primary KPI. In this role, the manager will develop strategies to drive merchants to present and use BNPL which will lead to incremental Branded TPV for PayPal and ultimately drive significant growth for PayPal’s BNPL Business. This role requires extensive cross functional collaboration including with sales, marketing, product, finance, and partner teams. An ideal candidate should have a quantitative background with a keen sense of understanding data to drive actions that lead to commercial success.

Job Description:

Key responsibilities:

  • Increase penetration of BNPL upstream presentment in SMB partner merchants (front & backbook)
  • Create & manage scorecards & targets.  Track and read out the financial impact of wins.  Develop business cases in order to prioritize initiatives.
  • Review and identify ways to improve PayPal’s BNPL position at partners relative to competitors using our best-in-class technology & value props
  • Proactively renew mutually beneficial partner contracts including BNPL sales targets.
  • Creatively solve for front book solutions to ensure merchants are equipped with PayPal BNPL from day 0
  • Ensure wide distribution of our BNPL upstream messaging by partnering with sales enablement, marketing, and partner managers. Ensure training materials, data points, marketing campaigns, and sales pitches are up to date and polished.
  • Manage relationships with Internal Stakeholders

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in SMB Sales or Partner Management, Credit Portfolio Management, Financial Services, Corporate Strategy or related functional experience
  • Strategic agility and Strong Communication. Adept at articulating credible vision of possibilities and getting buy-in from leadership & peers
  • Experience leading others indirectly (leadership without authority), cross-functional collaboration skills required
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders across multi-disciplinary businesses and functions
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Adaptability to changing business objectives and constraints
  • Proven track record of collaboration and influence in a matrixed environment. Strong sense of urgency with the ability to “get things done” across matrixed organization
  • Deep understanding of PayPal Products and PayPal Buy Now Pay Later
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, with MBA degree preferred

The US national annual pay range for this role is $100,500 to $173,250
