Job Description

As a Principal Product Manager for Copilot Mobile at Microsoft AI, you'll lead the development of world-class AI applications for mobile devices. Responsibilities include understanding user needs, defining product requirements, managing the product development lifecycle, and collaborating with cross-functional teams (engineers, designers, researchers). You'll translate business goals into technical requirements, define performance indicators, conduct experiments, and measure success using data. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical skills, effective people management abilities, and a passion for building exceptional consumer experiences in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a deep understanding of the mobile stack and experience building consumer products leveraging machine learning or large language models. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days a week in the office in either Mountain View, CA or Redmond, WA.
Must have:
  • 8+ years product management experience
  • Experience leading mobile app product teams
  • Expertise in mobile technology and UX
  • Strong data analysis and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
Good to have:
  • Experience with personal productivity, search, or messaging products
  • Experience with ML/LLM in consumer products
  • SQL and coding skills (Python, Javascript)

We’re on the lookout for talented and passionate Product Managers (PM) to help build the next wave of capabilities of our personal AI, Copilot. As a Principal Product Manager on Copilot Mobile, you will balance creativity, curiosity, technical expertise, to drive challenging projects to successful completion. Our powerful AI models give us the opportunity to redefine what people can achieve on a mobile device. You will collaboratively work with engineers, designers, product managers, and AI researchers to take ambiguous projects and mold them into amazing experiences to delight our customers. Our newly formed organization, Microsoft AI (MAI), focuses on Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. We combine world-class AI research together with top notch design and product craft. The wider team is responsible for Copilot, Bing, Edge, and generative AI research, while the Mobile Engineering team is responsible for leading and building the mobile experience of Copilot on iOS and Android, collaborating closely with our Product Management, Design and AI Research teams. This role requires a balance of technical skills and effective people management skills.

By applying to this U.S. Mountain View, CA OR Redmond, WA position, you are required to be local to the San Francisco area OR Seattle area and in office 3 days a week. 

Responsibilities
  • Drive building world-class AI applications that will delight consumers across Copilot on our mobile surfaces.  
  • Own a product area and be responsible for understanding user needs and behaviors, defining product requirements, managing end-to-end product development, launches and iterations. 
  • Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to get your work into the hands of users quickly and iteratively.  
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, design-driven, product development cycle. 
  • Translate business goals into strategy, user experience and technical requirements in close collaboration with UX designers and AI model training teams. 
  • Define goals and performance indicators, set up and oversee experiments, measure success with data and research. 
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to build exceptional consumer-grade applications.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8 years experience in product management
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading product teams building consumer products.
  • Experience leading product teams building mobile apps. 
  • Expertise of the mobile stack, from UX patterns to distribution to technical capabilities. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10 years of experience in product management
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading product teams building consumer products in personal productivity, search, education or messaging. 
  • Experience building consumer products leveraging Machine Learning or Large Language Models.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing requirements and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team. 
  • Experience with data analytics and experimentation tools. Working knowledge of SQL and coding skills (Python, Javascript).

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
