Job Description

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you'll build and maintain complex web applications for ESPN's fantasy products, contributing to the world's #1 fantasy app and website. You'll work with JavaScript, React, and Node to deliver scalable solutions, partner with other engineering teams, and support live event coverage. Responsibilities include building components and modules used by millions, connecting UI to live APIs, ensuring performance and scalability, and developing seamless webview integrations within ESPN Fantasy apps. You'll contribute innovative ideas and learn about ESPN Fantasy's scaling services.

  • Experience with task automation (Webpack)

Job Summary:

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will be part of a diverse and talented organization focused on building and maintaining complex web applications for ESPN’s fantasy products.  You will be a member of a team building the world’s #1 fantasy app and website working with modern server-side and web technologies such as JavaScript, React and Node to deliver scalable and elegant solutions for new product features and core site architecture.


Beyond performing daily responsibilities working on our team, you will have opportunities to contribute innovative ideas for our product and learn more about the services that allow ESPN Fantasy to scale and perform. 

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Build components and modules that are used by millions of fans around the world 

  • Bring our UI to life by connecting components to live APIs 

  • Partner with other engineering teams to solve problems while considering performance, scalability, caching, resiliency, and flexibility for expanding product requirements 

  • Work with native teams to develop seamless webview integrations within the ESPN Fantasy apps

  • Support live event coverage and triage issues that come in to ensure an optimal experience for our global audiences

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant professional work experience

  • Proven understanding of frontend web development technologies and principles 

  • Knowledge of JavaScript and React

  • Effective communicator, collaborator, and teammate 

  • Able to multi-task and prioritize as needed 

  • Quick to learn new concepts 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with task automation (WebPack) and CSS Preprocessors (PostCSS, Less, Sass) 

  • Understanding of AWS services (e.g., Cloudwatch, EC2, S3, etc) 

  • Experience with NodeJS 

Required Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience


The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $142,516 to $191,180 per year and in Glendale, CA is $136,100 to $182,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
