Telstra is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Java Full Stack development. The role involves translating customer needs into new products and capabilities, applying deep technical expertise in software application layers, and developing scalable design blueprints throughout the software development lifecycle. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and executing activities for full-stack application requirements interpretation, design, and implementation. This includes developing responsive user interfaces with front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as Angular, as well as server-side applications and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot. The engineer will integrate front-end and back-end components, ensure technical feasibility of UI/UX designs, review vendor solutions, and understand business operations to improve productivity. Key tasks also involve supporting enterprise high availability full-stack applications, reducing aging tickets, providing proactive problem management, coordinating with technical resources, performing database design and development, testing and debugging applications, and collaborating with DevOps for deployment processes.
Must have:
  • Java 17+/Kotlin/Spring Boot experience
  • ReactJS/JavaScript(ES6)/Angular experience

Focus of the Role

The role will be responsible for the operational health, deployment, and continuous improvement of applications within the Assurance stack. This role blends application support and operational engineering, ensuring high availability, proactive issue management, and efficient delivery across development, testing, and production environments.

What You’ll Do 

Experience:

Full Stack developer role is to plan, coordinate, and execute all activities related to the requirements interpretation, design and implementation of Full stack  applications. This individual will apply proven industry and technology experience as well as communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to issues related to design, development, and deployment of mission-critical business systems with a focus on quality application development and delivery.

This role is key to the success of the Customer Platforms function at Telstra and will be responsible and accountable for the following:

  • Collaborate with product owners, designers, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Design and implement responsive user interfaces using modern front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks (e.g., Angular).
  • Develop server-side applications and RESTful APIs using back-end technologies such as Java and Spring Boot.
  • Integrate front-end and back-end components to create a seamless user experience.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Ability to review vendor designs and recommended solutions based on industry best practises
  • Understand overall business operations and develops innovative solutions to help improve productivity
  • Ability to understand and design provisioning solutions at Telstra and how CRM interacts with provisioning layers.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills needed to support enterprise high availability full stack applications . Reduce ageing tickets and provide proactive  problem management .
  • Coordinate with technical resource within and outside of Customer Platforms team.
  • Perform database design and development, including data modeling, queries, and optimization.
  • Ensure the application's performance, security, and scalability meet industry best practices and project requirements.
  • Test and debug web applications to identify and resolve issues.
  • Organize and conduct showcases for product owners and stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve and refactor code for better performance and maintainability.
  • Actively participating in code reviews and giving constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with DevOps engineers for smooth deployment and release processes.
  • Stay up to date with latest technologies, frameworks, and industry trends.
  • Assists leadership with development and management of new application capabilities to improve productivity.
  • Provide training and educate other team members around core capabilities and helps them deliver high quality solutions and deliverables/documentation
  • Self-Motivator to perform Design / Develop user requirements, test and deploy the changes into production.

Required Skills: 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field (preferred but not required).
  • Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer with more than 7+ years' experience and a strong portfolio.
  • Experience in Java 17+/Kotlin/Spring Boot, and ReactJS/JavaScript(ES6)/Angular.
  • Good experience in developing and designing microservices, Restful webservices and exposing APIs on API Gateway (eg: APIGEE)
  • Solid knowledge of database technologies like, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB.
  • Familiar with API development and integration with GraphQL and RESTful technologies(JSON).
  • Practised Model View Controller (MVC) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) in order to develop maintainable and scalable solutions.
  • Developed automated tests using frontend and backend test frameworks like jest mockito etc.
  • Design and implementation of single and multi-tier application architecture.
  • Development and deployment and scaling of containerised applications with Docker
  • A good understanding of the architectural principals of web-based platforms including SaaS, multi-tenancy, multi-tiered infrastructure and application servers
  • Understanding of all cloud offerings in the market and ability to discuss cloud architectures
  • A good understanding of enterprise application integration, including SOA, ESB, EAI, ETL environments and an understanding of integration considerations such as process orchestration, customer data integration and master data management
  • A good understanding of the security processes, standards & issues involved in multi-tier, multi-tenant web applications
  • Web Technologies including MVC concepts, JS build automation frameworks, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of XML, JSON and other data interchange formats.
  • Knowledge of Java, HTML5, JQuery and other web technologies.
  • Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills .
  • Experience writing developer centric documentation
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence or similar tools.
