The American Girl Merchandise Handler is a part-time position at the Chicago retail location, reporting to the Merchandising Operations Manager. Responsibilities include processing incoming stock, maintaining stockroom standards, packing and loading returned merchandise, stocking the sales floor, monitoring stock levels, assisting with general retail operations (floor moves, equipment maintenance), and participating in special projects. The role requires interaction with customers and collaboration with store personnel to ensure a safe and positive environment. Prior retail or service industry experience in material handling or warehousing is preferred.

The Team: The American Girl Retail team is integral in providing lifetime memories to American Girl fans and their families. Our experiential retail stores provide shopping destinations like no other. This requires Innovation, Collaboration, and Execution from all who are a part of this division. Our in-store experiences range depending on location from Girl and Doll Salons, Full-Service Restaurants, Personal Shopping, Ear Piercing (Girl and Doll), hosting Parties/Celebrations to name a few. Expect a dynamic and fast-paced role where you get to make decisions that impact the team as well as our customers.

Job Description

The Opportunity: The Merchandise Handler is located at the AG Chicago Retail location and reports directly to the Merchandising Operations Manager. This position is responsible for assisting the visual merchandising manager with daily operations, including stocking merchandise on the sales floor, unloading trucks, and inventory management.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Process incoming stock shipments in a safe and orderly fashion. Maintain stockroom standards for merchandise placement, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Pack up and load trailer with returning merchandise (returns, rework, and doll hospital).
  • Maintain stock on the retail sales floor, including special requests from retail partners.
  • Monitor stock levels on an on-going basis and fill in as necessary adhering to visual standards.
  • Assist in the general execution of the retail business, including floor moves, equipment maintenance, and working with other store personnel to provide a safe environment for both customers and employees. Perform special projects as requested.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in prioritizing tasks to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in retail or service industry, either in material handling, shipping, receiving, retail, or warehouse stock handling, preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be friendly, approachable, and willing to offer assistance to a guest in a respectful manner, especially children.
  • Must be available to work open and close shifts, weekends, and holidays.

The base hourly rate for this position is between $17 to $19.50. 

**This range is indicative of the projected hiring range; however, the base hourly rate will be determined based on a candidate's work location, skills, and experience.**
