Job Summary:

This position supports the development of and communication of Show Lighting design concepts, design implementation and lighting installation efforts and tasks as directed by the Show Lighting lead designer for assigned project, for any variety of attractions and facilities.

This role is responsible to support the lead designers to conduct mock-ups and presentations, tests and with hands-on knowledge to conduct the test on site and supervises crews in the focusing and adjusting of lighting equipment  as directed by the lead designer. Performs test and adjust tasks as needed.

Additionally, the position supports the maintenance for the show lighting database of all locations, assist show lighting designers in conducting training classes on artistic and maintenance procedures. The ability to design themed and custom fixtures is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Define project lighting requirements as directed by lead designer
  • Direct in field implementation of show lighting design when required
  • Contribute creative ideas and build mock-ups or other tools to validate ideas during brainstorming sessions
  • Coordinate maintenance and show lighting installations at all attractions and facilities, working closely with Facility Services, Operations and Attractions teams to ensure consistent maintenance of Show Quality Standards and adherence to creative theme intentions
  • Consolidate information to provide detailed plans for show lighting upgrades and rehabs to be included in the Integrated Facility Planning (IFP)
  • Interface with other disciplines throughout project phases to ensure compliance with overall design/story
  • Conduct periodic show reviews, checking the physical condition of all lighting fixtures and generating reports based on review findings
  • Research fixture information and lighting technologies in support of project effort. Stays current on new and developing lighting technologies
  • Assist in creating and teaching regular classes on show lighting standards, maintenance and design

Requirements:

  • College degree, BFA or Lighting Design degree or above
  • 3 years experience in related professional environment, Disney experience preferred
  • Participated in at least 3 small to medium Disney or theme park or entertainment industry projects
  • Current knowledge of new and developing lighting technologies
  • Knowledge of facility electrical systems is a benefit
  • Strong knowledge of CAD or similar electronic design software
  • Familiar with the use of standard theatrical documentation (focus charts, fixture schedules, dimmer/control schedules)
  • Possess working understanding of theatrical application of light (focus, color, texture, highlight and shadow, key and fill)
  • Possess a basic to advanced understanding of the electrical configuration of theatrical dimming systems and its control as well as LED/RGB infrastructure
  • Excellent verbal and visual communication skills, highly motivated, can accept direction easily
  • Ability to work within a team environment and at the direction of lead designers and directors
  • Ability to mentor interns
