The Mid/Senior Concept Artist will be responsible for developing concepts for environments, structures, props, creatures, armor, and weapons to bring the game world to life. They will work closely with the Art Director, level designers, and other artists to create concepts with function and visual impact, and also participate in concept art reviews. This role requires a strong portfolio, understanding of art principles, proficiency in digital art tools, and excellent communication skills.
Must have:
  • Minimum 3 years of concept artist experience.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating design skills.
  • Understanding of environmental and character design.
  • Excellent understanding of artistic principles.
  • Proficiency in digital art tools like Photoshop.
Good to have:
  • 3D knowledge such as ZBrush, Blender, and/or Maya.
  • Understanding of 2D and 3D art asset pipelines.
  • Passion for mmorpg and pvp games.

Company Description

City State Entertainment is an independent video game development studio founded in March 2011, in Fairfax, Virginia. The studio embodies an “open office” collaborative process where all team members are expected to contribute to the design and the development process. The team has built a next-generation engine tentatively titled the "Unchained Engine" which is powering their two games in development - Camelot Unchained, a niche RvR old-school MMORPG (currently in Beta) and Final Stand: Ragnarok, a PvE looter-slasher in which teams of any size fight against hordes of NPCs (currently in very Early Access on Steam).

Job Description

We are looking for a talented Senior to Mid Concept Artist with a passion for developing fantasy worlds. This includes not merely crafting concepts for content, but also contributing significantly to the visual direction of all our products. 

As a Concept Artist, you will be responsible for developing concepts, working closely with our Art Director, level designers, and other artists to create concepts with function and visual impact for structures and set dress within the environments of Camelot Unchained. You will also aid in concept art reviews to ensure the quality of the art produced is consistent with the game's overall design. 


Responsibilities:

  • Create, explore, and develop concept art for environments, structures, props, creatures, armor, weapons and other assets to bring our game world to life.

  • Work closely with our Art Director, game designers, and other artists to align concept designs with visual direction and game design requirements.

  • Collaborate with fellow artists and designers in reviews and give feedback, to ensure the quality of the art produced is consistent with the game's overall design.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a concept artist.

  • Strong portfolio that demonstrates versatile design skills and imaginative thinking

  • Understanding of environmental, character, creature, and prop design.  

  • Excellent understanding of artistic principles including: form, proportions, volume, silhouette, color, ect….

  • Proficient in digital art tools such as Photoshop. 

    • 3D knowledge such as ZBrush, Blender,  and/or Maya are a big plus.

  • Understanding of 2D and 3D art asset pipelines for video games.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Willing to seek out others when in need of assistance and give as well in return.

  • Ability to take direction and also self-motivate when tackling tasks independently.

  • Passion for games, particularly mmorpg and pvp games is always a plus.
