Come join us as a Senior Controls Engineer for the Planning & Sustaining Team at Reedy Creek Energy Services (RCES) which is a small team of highly trained and skilled engineers responsible for providing engineering oversight for over 40 square miles of utility infrastructure serving the Walt Disney Company. As the Senior Controls Engineer, you will provide engineering services to support the portfolio of capital improvement projects for the utility systems, ensuring consistency with department strategy, commitments, and goals. This role will be the primary asset owner responsible for sustainment of and the development of strategic plans supporting process control and communication for the utility systems.
The Senior Controls Engineer will be a direct report to the Planning & Sustaining Engineering Team Lead, RCES Engineering & Programs.
This position will be a full-time, in the office position in Orlando, FL.
Serve as a subject matter expert in solving complex issues related to the operation and maintenance of control and automation systems.
Develop and maintain control design and construction standards and operating guidelines.
Assist in the design, implementation, commissioning, documentation, and sustainment of automation, controls and instrumentation of Central Energy Plants, Utility monitoring, HVAC (EMS), and water treatment plants.
Interpret engineering documentation, such as panel wiring, instrument data sheets, calibration data sheets, hardware, and software configuration to execute project and sustainment work and prevent or respond to downtimes.
Develop the requirements and technical oversight over all commissioning, software bench tests, software factory acceptance tests, and equipment factory witness tests.
Develop robust preventative maintenance and asset refurbishment and replacement programs for instruments and control systems and components associated with monitoring, control, data acquisition, metering, fiber optic cabling, and other activities associated with utility production and distribution.
Write procedures to address both routine tasks as well as troubleshooting specialized equipment and systems during failures.
5+ years of experience in the utility automation and control operation and maintenance.
5+ years of applicable experience in specifying, designing and installing hardware, instrumentation wiring and software review for PLC’s.
Ability to interpret P&IDs, Sequence of Operations, and drawings for Energy Management Systems (EMS), Central Energy Plant Systems and other property wide Building Management System (BMS).
Experience in wiring, troubleshooting, and testing Programmable Logic Controllers, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and digital/analog instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure transducers, temperature transmitters, RTD’s, differential pressure transducers, etc.
Proficient at AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel in creating drawings and documents from scratch or site surveys.
Working knowledge of applicable standards and codes applicable to control panels and overall systems including UL 508A.
Understanding of system level considerations and basic mechanical principles – pumps, valves, pressurized systems, compressed air and dryer systems.
Knowledge of various electrical circuits, instrumentation – relays, proximity switches, control valves, motors, drives, solenoids, pneumatic valves, thermistors, 4-20mA, 0-10V, RTDs, etc.
Basic programming skills in ladder logic or structured text.
Experience in specifying, designing, documenting and maintaining fiber optic equipment, cabling and physical plant infrastructure.
Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
Must be available to work outside normal work hours in response to job demand, equipment availability, and system/equipment emergencies as required including in adverse weather events.
Ability to manage workload and balance constantly evolving priorities while maintaining productivity.
Able to work individually or as part of a team to develop new control schemes, support existing schemes, and test and evaluate equipment.
Basic understanding of Schneider PLCs.
Understanding of communication technologies/protocols: Bacnet, TCP/IP, Modbus, etc.
Control system theory experience (closed -loop control).
Experience with monitoring electrical power distribution and energy management systems or Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Systems.
Experience with the operation of large multi-building campuses and system wide facility controls integration.
Practical field experience (start-up and commissioning, maintenance, etc.) with the above preferred qualification utilities and infrastructure.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or comparable discipline is required.
Master's degree in applicable discipline is preferred.
