Job Description

At Harvey, our platform team lays the foundation for everything we build. As a Platform Engineer, you’ll design and scale the core systems that power our legal AI product — from authentication and permissions to observability and integrations. You’ll work closely with product, infra, and security teams to drive velocity, reliability, and compliance across the stack. This is a high-leverage role for engineers who love building systems that scale and thrive on cross-functional collaboration.
Must have:
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement core abstractions and services that increase product velocity.
  • Improve reliability, scalability, and compliance for platform services.
  • Develop and enhance platform features including authentication, compliance, and enterprise integrations.
  • Partner closely with product teams to seamlessly integrate new features into core platform.
  • Establish best practices in security, compliance, and maintainability throughout development cycles.
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership, promoting best practices and fostering team growth.

Role Overview

As a Platform Engineer, you’ll design and scale the core systems that power our legal AI product — from authentication and permissions to observability and integrations. You’ll work closely with product, infra, and security teams to drive velocity, reliability, and compliance across the stack. This is a high-leverage role for engineers who love building systems that scale and thrive on cross-functional collaboration.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use an in-person work model and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement core abstractions and services that increase product velocity: notifications, data fetching patterns, data access abstractions, etc.
  • Improve reliability, scalability, and compliance for platform services like permissions management, admin reporting, and customizations.
  • Develop and enhance platform features including authentication, compliance, and enterprise integrations across the legal tech ecosystem
  • Partner closely with product teams to seamlessly integrate new features into core platform
  • Establish best practices in security, compliance, and maintainability throughout development cycles
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership, promoting best practices and fostering team growth

What You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of software development experience, particularly in backend systems or platform services, with proven ability to mentor and guide technical teams
  • Proficiency in backend-focused languages such as Python, Go, Ruby, or similar
  • Experience with large-scale high-traffic applications, distributed systems, and scalable data storage solutions
  • Experience with enterprise software features like permissions (RBAC), analytics, audit logs, notifications, self-serve onboarding, and provisioning
  • Experience with authentication frameworks (SSO, SCIM, OAuth), compliance, and security best practices
  • Experience with API development and enterprise integrations (SaaS, on-prem)
