Job Description

The Designer (Vehicles), CG role involves creating original designs based on the show style and ensuring designs align with story specifications. The designer will collaborate with the art director, lead designer, and modelling departments, keeping current with scripts and animatics. The responsibilities include producing designs, working within the scheduled timeframe, and participating in production meetings. The job also requires communicating any issues to the lead designer. The position is located in British Columbia.
Must have:
  • Create appealing stylized cartoon vehicles and balance out technical functionality.
  • Strong rendering abilities for realistic material depiction.
  • Experience in production design for animation (1+ years).
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas.
Good to have:
  • CG design and modeling experience is a definite asset.

Overview

WildBrain Studios is looking for a Designer (Vehicles), CG to join our team! 

 

This role is required to be located in BC starting asap.
 
In this role, you will execute key designs and create original concepts. This position is responsible for maintaining the show style and ensuring that the designs work within the story specifications.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Create original designs on show style according to production schedule 
  • Work closely with Art Director and Lead Designer to keep designs manageable and complete work within the scheduled timeframe 
  • Collaborate creatively with the design and modelling departments 
  • Keep current with scripts and animatics to inform design choices 
  • Learn and adhere to established production methodology 
  • Identify and communicate any issues, concerns or efficiencies to Lead Designer 
  • Participate in production & departmental meetings 

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong 3d dimensional design sense. Needs to be able to create appealing stylized cartoon vehicles, but be able to balance out the visual design with technical functionality.
  • Strong rendering abilities - be able to paint stylized, but realistic materials to help create designs that will be an accurate depiction of how the vehicles will appear in the final show.
  • Blender/Maya proxy modelling experience
  • 1+ years’ of experience in production design for animation 
  • Strong drawing and colour fundamentals 
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently 
  • Ability to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure 
  • Openness to direction and ability to embrace change 
  • Strong problem solving skills 
  • CG design and modelling experience a definite asset

Pay Range: $1000 - $1700 per week.

Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
