Job Description

Scopely seeks a Principal Animator for an unannounced cross-platform Strategy/MMO title. Responsibilities include collaborating with the Art Director to deliver high-quality keyframed character animations in Maya, implementing animations into the engine, participating in character creation, collaborating with Tech Art and Code teams, and reviewing animations from internal and external teams. The ideal candidate will have experience shipping multiple titles, proficiency in Maya, strong communication skills, and a portfolio showcasing realistic and stylized animation. The role involves working closely with production to manage resources and schedules, and consistently striving to exceed the studio's quality standards.

Scopely is looking for a talented and experienced Principal Animator to join our Unannounced Project based in the UK, Ireland, Spain or Portugal on a hybrid/remote basis.

We are in the early stages of development on an ambitious, unannounced, cross-platform Strategy/MMO title, creating a team of talented and passionate game makers to join us on this exciting journey!

What You’ll Do

As a Senior member of the art team you will be influential in helping the Art director make their artistic vision come to life. You will work in a collaborative environment to create and iterate on animations for a wide range of characters. The ideal candidate will have a portfolio displaying a high level of ability of realistic and stylized keyframe animations. 
  • Work closely with the Art Director to deliver the highest quality in game keyframed character animations in Maya
  • Implement animations into engine with full ownership of your work
  • Be involved in the character creation process, from concept and design, through to modeling, rigging and final animation
  • Collaborate with Tech Art and Code teams to ensure pipelines and tools are effective, optimal and capable of delivery
  • Collaborate across disciplines to develop the gameplay experience
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of anatomy and motion in all of the work you oversee or create
  • Produce visual benchmarks and production guides, breaking down technical specifications to reproduce animations within style
  • Collaborate with tech art and modeling team on rig iteration for believable character movement
  • Review the animation created by internal and external partner teams and provide detailed feedback in a timely manner
  • Work closely with Production to coordinate animation resources, schedules and priorities based on project needs
  • Consistently strive to exceed the highest quality standards of the studio
What We’re Looking For

  • You will be able to demonstrate a history of creating stunning animations while maintaining visual and functional specifications for game mechanics
  • Experience in shipping multiple titles in your career as an Animator
  • In-depth experience working with animation graphs and state machines
  • Exhibit a strong understanding of the fundamental principles of animation
  • Proficiency within Maya or Max (our pipeline is Maya)
  • Superior communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and an ability to receive and provide objective feedback
  • Experience providing feedback with internal teams, external vendors or receiving feedback as working for a vendor
