Job Details

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

Our mission on the Developer Platform Team is to help game studios succeed by creating meaningful experiences for players. As a B2B2C team, we serve two key audiences. For game studios, we build smart integrations and intuitive tools that make it easy for developers, community managers, and marketers to connect with players and bring the best of Discord into their games. For players, we enhance on-platform experiences that deepen their connection to the games they love—and make it easier to build lasting friendships through play.

This role will shape both the developer and player experiences, bringing them together in impactful ways. You’ll work on everything from the tools studios use to integrate with Discord to the player-facing experiences those integrations enable. For example, you might design in-game ways to invite Discord friends to play, onboarding flows for studios, or new ways to bring game moments and achievements onto Discord to spark social connection. Your work will span surfaces like the developer portal, dashboards, self-serve tools, in-game overlays, and the Discord client itself—where players discover games, make new friends, and play together.

As a product designer, you’ll work across the full product development cycle—from early exploration through to launch and iteration. You’ll bring a thoughtful mix of user empathy, systems thinking, and visual craft to solve meaningful problems for developers and players alike. If you’re energized by complex challenges, passionate about games and community, and excited to help shape how studios partner with Discord, we’d love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

  • You will partner with engineers, product managers and other cross-functional peers to oversee the user experience from idea to market.
  • You will form part of our growing and “EPAD” Organization that includes Engineering, Product, Analytics and Design functions.
  • You will create wire-frames, beautiful mockups, amazing prototypes, and help implement your designs to pixel perfection. You will also quality check all of your work as it it built, ensuring it reflects your vision perfectly.
  • You will present and communicate your designs to the team and your design peers to build consensus around your concepts.
  • You will test, learn, and iterate on everything you do alongside product peers.
  • You will meaningfully use, maintain and commit towards our Design System library.

What you should have

  • You have 2+ years of experience designing modern consumer-focused products. We’re open to more entry-level candidates with strong talent.
  • Highly proficient using Figma and some high-fidelity prototyping tool (ex: Protopie, Framer, Origami, etc). You have a high level of skill at crafting high quality visual designs and have an eye for creating delight in every product experience.
  • A portfolio of work on which you were the primary designer contributing to projects for both desktop and mobile.
  • Frequent personal use of Discord, and are passionate about the gaming space/experience.
  • You proactively form ideas and can communicate them with others through varying formats (documents, prototypes, presentations).
  • You collaboratively guide the vision for the product and achieve it through design explorations, documentation, and presentations.
  • Ownership mindset with a bias towards action, helping to drive projects and decisions forward. Maintains low ego with a focus on progress and growth.
  • You have experience working with a design system/library.

Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 to $180,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.

About The Company

Discord is a voice, video and text platform that helps friends come together to hang out, play games and have fun. When Jason Citron and Stanislav Vishnevskiy founded Discord in 2015 they had a hunch that multiplayer gaming would be the future of entertainment and that people would need a communications platform designed for them to talk with their gaming friends. Today, gaming has become the largest form of entertainment in the world, bigger than movies and music combined. It’s the fastest-growing as well. Discord makes it feel like you’re playing in the same room with friends.
