We’re seeking a passionate, talented Senior Product Designer to create products which are valuable, intuitive, and crafted to high standards. The role initially focuses on two key areas: product design on Blackboard, our market leading Learning Management System, and evolving our design system.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Leading design projects, combining quant/qual research insights, rapid iteration, and testing to craft data informed, user centered solutions
- Taking broad, conceptual ideas and turning them into something useful, useable, and valuable across mobile and web
- Prototyping, testing, and iterating. Jumping between ‘discovery’ mode (trying wild ideas, prototyping in whatever you are comfortable with Figma/Loveable/Cursor/V0) and ‘delivery’ mode (nailing the flow, interactions, motion and accessibility)
- Working collaboratively within product teams, as a peer, with product managers, developers and data scientists to bring your ideas to life
- Being autonomous. Taking full ownership of your work and responsibility for every detail, every step of the way, from sketching to high-fidelity designs, to what is finally shipped
- Evolving, expanding, and driving adoption of our design system to create more consistent, on-brand, responsive and accessible experiences
- Defining and documenting our visual language within the design system - typography, color, iconography, components and patterns
- Regularly auditing products and the design system to identify and resolve inconsistencies and highlight opportunities to continuously improve design quality and usability
- Taking an active role in our design community, sharing ideas, upskilling in how to best use AI and contributing to our lunch and learns
The Candidate:
Required skills/qualifications:
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience
- 5-8 years as a product designer on both mobile and web products
- Excellent visual design skills as well as a solid UX design foundation
- Excel at designing simple, inclusive, elegant products. A rigorous attention to detail when designing interaction flows and states, which consider all screen sizes from mobile, through tablet and desktop
- Strategic product thinker with ability to prioritize what’s important and cut anything that isn’t essential
- Adept at addressing short-term design needs, and delivering value to users incrementally, while making strides towards long term vision
- Strong portfolio showcasing solid user-centered design practice and high-quality design execution
- User obsessed and data informed, balancing qualitative insights with usage and behavioral analytics to inform your designs
- 'Get out of the building' mentality, taking ideas out to customers to get feedback early on
- Proven experience creating Design Systems or playing a significant contribution role, with a strong understanding of how reusable components and patterns improve design quality, consistency, usability and accessibility at scale
- Strong technical knowledge. Experience in partnering closely with developers, you understand the technical considerations of design and design system implementation
- Experience building Figma design system libraries ensuring they are accessible, scalable, and integrated into team workflows
- Experience with formative and evaluative research including usability testing
- Team player and exceptional communicator you can simplify complexity, tell compelling stories, and get buy-in for critical design decisions, effectively communicating at senior levels and on customer calls
- Solid knowledge of inclusive design and accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA)
- Good understanding of agile methodologies and experience working within global agile teams and how design fits into this
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with remote, globally distributed teams, maintaining strong relationships across teams with diverse cultures and work styles
- Fluency in written and spoken English at CEF B2 level or above
Preferred skills/qualifications:
- Experience designing and working with AI and machine learning
- Solid understanding of HTML/CSS and an understanding of Web Frameworks and React
