Job Description

The Product Design Engineer will collaborate with the design team on projects, from using 3D modeling to creating production drawings. They will also maintain current product lines and engineering drawings, assist in preparing documents for procurement, and manage manuals/brochures/sales literature. The role involves strategic and creative thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The engineer must also demonstrate organizational skills, time management, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include designing new layouts/products, maintaining product lines, preparing documents for procurement, and analyzing issues. The engineer must be able to work effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers, while adhering to safety protocols. The candidate should work in a professional office environment with occasional work in a production area.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with solid/3D modeling (Inventor or Solidworks preferred).
  • Experience with 2D modeling (AutoCAD or AutoCAD Mechanical preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings.
Good to have:
  • Experience in Manufacturing setting.
  • Rail Industry experience is a plus.
  • Experience with BOM and Procurements Preferred.

Who will you be working with?

Wabtec Components LLC (G & B Specialties) is a division of Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation (WABTEC), a leading global provider of products and services for the freight rail and passenger transit industries.  G & B “specializes” in New Product Design, Engineering, and In-House Manufacturing. G & B’s principal products include signal components, switch machine layouts, electric locks, switch circuit controllers, switch point rollers, manual switch stands, track switch rods, and railgear.

How will you make a difference?

This position will be responsible for collaborating with the design team to complete projects in a timely manner, as well as routine day-to-day activities which range from using solid/3D modeling to complete drawings for production and the paperwork included, to solving any engineering/technical question that may arise during the day.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering minimum 1-3 yrs. experience preferred.

  • Experience with solid/3D modeling (Inventor or Solidworks preferred)

  • Experience with 2D modeling (AutoCAD or AutoCAD Mechanical preferred)

  • Experience in Manufacturing setting.  Rail Industry experience is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel 10% to be on-site for installs and design of equipment.

  • Experience with BOM and Procurements Preferred

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret manufacturing drawings, technical manuals and diagrams and standards.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication/language as well as interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Solid/3D Modeling or 2D software to design new layouts/products accompanied with creating production drawings.

  • Maintaining current product lines and engineering drawing

  • Assisting design team in preparing documents for procurement

  • Maintaining any and all manuals/brochures/sales literature.

  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrate organizational skills, practice time management, meet deadlines and drive projects to completion.

  • Ability to interface effectively within all levels of the organization and external customers.

  • Exhibit safe work habits adhering to all PPE and OSHA during times in the manufacturing area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by Management.

  • Employee is regularly required to speak and hear.
  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and use two hands.
  • Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on occasions.
  • Employee is regularly required to work in front of a computer for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Work hours may fluctuate based on demand.
  • Employee is required to wear safety shoes and safety glasses when in a manufacturing area.  Must have the ability to wear hearing protection when in production areas that require it. 
  • Employee is required to be on site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
  • The employee will work in a professional office environment with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.  Occasionally, working in a production area to witness firsthand and troubleshoot the issue.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$60,700.00-$83,400.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
