The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for using engineering knowledge to help customers solve complex engineering problems using Ansys Lumerical and to support regional accounts to increase software revenue. The role involves providing technical support, engaging in presale activities, delivering professional services, and translating customer requirements into new product features. Key duties include providing high-level technical support, owning customer problems, instructing training classes, gathering customer requirements to improve Ansys software, and participating in internal initiatives. The job also requires developing simulation best practices and solutions.

Role summary 

 

The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for leveraging domain engineering knowledge and relationships to help customers solving complex engineering problems using Ansys Lumerical and to support regional accounts with significant impact on software revenue.  

 

The role encompasses providing technical support to our customers, engaging in presale activities to support sales campaigns, scoping and delivering professional services to support software growth, and helping translate customer requirements into exciting new product features.  

 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Apply engineering expertise and knowledge of optics and photonics engineering to provide the highest level of technical support to customers and channel partners, ensuring high-quality, timely service that enhances customer satisfaction and productivity. 

  • Own customer problems and proactively engage with selected accounts to provide comprehensive solutions. Work independently and contribute to all technical activities throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle. Interact with customers to understand their business needs, product design requirements, and engineering workflows, and articulate Ansys’ value proposition. 

  • Instruct introductory, intermediate, and/or advanced training classes. Scope and deliver professional services for projects, which may include collaboration with other field engineers across various disciplines. 

  • Gather customer requirements and market trends to support the improvement of Ansys software. Collaborate with the Ansys product development team to translate customer needs into new product capabilities. Test new releases on real-world industrial problems. 

  • Participate in internal corporate initiatives to share knowledge and establish best practices both within and across disciplines. 

  • Develop simulation best practices, solutions, and FAQs for the knowledge base. 

  • Work location: Taiwan 

 

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Optics, Photonics, Optoelectronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 

  • Professional experience in a relevant engineering domain: 5 years with a BS, 3 years with an MS, or a PhD 

  • Solid knowledge of optical and photonics theory. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify and address complex problems. 

  • Familiarity with Ansys software (Lumerical) or other commercial optical/photonics simulation tools. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to conduct webinars and deliver presentations to diverse audiences. 

  • Proficiency in writing and presenting in both Mandarin and English. 

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time. 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Professional experience in a relevant engineering domain: 8 years for a BS, 6 years for an MS, or 3 years for a PhD. 

  • Deep understanding of photonics theory and applications in areas such as Silicon Photonics, Co-Packaged Optics, CMOS Image Sensors, and Displays. 

  • Ability to lead and manage multiple complex projects. 

  • Experience with numerical solvers such as FDTD, RCWA, BPM, charge transport, heat transport, multi-quantum wells, PIC circuit solvers, ray tracers, etc 

  • Graduate-level coursework in solid-state devices. 

  • Familiarity with EDA/EPDA design flows, including compact model development and validation. 

  • Experience participating in MPW (multi-project wafer) runs, including design, fabrication, and testing. 

  • Programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages. 

  • Prior experience presenting to or teaching groups of optical engineers and scientists. 

  • Ability to interact effectively with senior engineering managers and C-level executives.
