BlueScope, an Australian global company with over 16,500 employees across 15 countries, is seeking passionate, future-focused Computer Engineering Cadets for its Port Kembla Manufacturing facility, starting January 2026. This cadetship program offers a unique opportunity to accelerate personal and professional growth by combining paid work with study, allowing cadets to attend university classes one day a week. Cadets will work under experienced engineers, gaining exposure to equipment and the production lifecycle, supporting digital transformation initiatives, and developing skills in digital manufacturing computing systems. They will develop software solutions, integrate digital transformation solutions with existing systems, and see projects from inception to operation, making a direct impact. Rotations through various departments will provide a comprehensive understanding of the steel-making process.
Must have:
  • Year 12 student with subjects for Computer Engineering at UOW
  • Currently studying or open to transferring to Computer Engineering at UOW
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to innovative ideas
  • Interest in hands-on work with real impact
  • Ability to challenge oneself and try new things
Good to have:

At BlueScope, we’re looking for passionate, future-focused students who are ready to start their journey into the world of engineering.  Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for Computer Engineering Cadets, who are ready to commence in January 2026.  

Our Cadetship program at BlueScope creates an opportunity to accelerate your personal and professional growth as you combine paid work with study; a two-for-one situation placing you far ahead of your peers!

Cadetships provide a combination of part-time study and part-time work, where you will attend university classes one day a week. If you are commencing straight from year 12, you will work casually for your first year and attend university full-time.  

What Will You Do?

Working with, and under the guidance of experienced engineers, you’ll gain exposure to our equipment and the production lifecycle. These formative years of your engineering journey are invaluable, as you’re involved in supporting the digital transformation needs of the manufacturing and production teams. You’ll develop your skills and build upon your competency in a range of digital manufacturing computing systems and technologies. 

With ongoing mentoring and guidance, you’ll work within multidisciplinary teams, to develop software solutions to integrate digital transformation solutions with existing systems. You will have the opportunity to be see projects through from inception to operation, where you’ll see your work having a direct impact on our operations.  

Rotating through various departments, you’ll gain an appreciation of the steel-making process through trying a bit of everything, allowing you to find the perfect fit for your BlueScope boots. To give you a strong foundation, your rotations will allow you to experience exactly what you’re studying.
