We are currently seeking a Indirect Tax Specialist in our New York City office. This hybrid role will report to the Assistant Director, US Indirect Tax, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
Key focus areas include managing indirect tax controversies, performing research and analysis to determine nexus and taxability, and implementing improvements to systems, processes, controls, and automation for long-term sustainability and scalability. You will own key deliverables that make an immediate impact and work on various projects to drive savings and reduce risk, collaborating with business, tax, accounting, legal, and technology colleagues.

We will count on you to:
Manage indirect tax controversies, including audit defense and voluntary disclosure agreements.
Contribute to cost savings initiatives through reverse audits and refund reviews.
Assist with research, state tax nexus determinations, taxability analyses, and quantification of potential sales and use/indirect tax exposures.
Provide support and analysis on various indirect tax questions.
Oversee acquisition integrations to ensure compliance with indirect tax processes.
Develop, document, and implement policies and procedures related to indirect tax.
Identify technology tools and processes for indirect tax automation to reduce manual work and enhance compliance efficiency.
Manage product taxability configurations and system enablement, including nexus settings and product mappings.
Provide guidance to junior staff and support the Assistant Director, Indirect Tax, on all related matters.
What you need to have:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in tax/accounting.
5+ years of experience with US Indirect Tax reporting, including sales and use, personal property, gross receipts, and business tax.
Proficiency in Advanced Excel, Alteryx, or similar database tools for manipulating large data sets.
Strong communication skills for effective interaction with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and government agencies.
Excellent organization and prioritization skills to manage multiple deliverables.
Strong analytical skills with innovative problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with systems such as Oracle and Vertex, and tax reporting processes requiring data collation from multiple systems.
