Job Description

The Linux Server Support Engineer/Technician will be responsible for patching Linux servers, assisting with the design, development, testing, and implementation of on-premises physical and virtual Red Hat and Oracle Linux server-based infrastructure. They will also need to understand the applications running on the Windows server estate and their network connectivity, support Linux environments across various stages, proactively monitor and troubleshoot technical issues, assist with server migrations, identify and resolve Linux server issues, collaborate with the Application Support team, perform system maintenance activities, and manage support requests with third-party vendors. They must adhere to customer policies and standards related to the Linux Server Operating System.
Must have:
  • 3-5 years experience with Red Hat and Oracle Linux Server environments
  • Experience patching Linux and providing support/troubleshooting
  • Experience with Linux Servers in VMware and Oracle Virtualization environments
  • Implementation of Linux patches and upgrades.
  • Experience of managing and administering 24x7 Linux Server environments
  • Experience of data centre management.
  • Experience of Linux hardware and software monitoring toolsets
  • Experience of Linux server backup and recovery procedures
  • Experience of Linux server security configuration and operation
  • Good working knowledge of different operating systems and network configurations
  • Knowledge of shell scripting

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Carry out Patching on Linux Servers monthly to ensure it is completely timely and with appropriate expertise
  • Assist with the design, development, testing and implementation operational on-premises physical and virtual Red Hat and Oracle
  • Linux server based infrastructure within defined time scales
  • Gain an understanding of the applications that run on the Windows server estate and their network connectivity
  • Support Linux environments across development, test, pre-production and production landscape
  • Proactively monitor, report, troubleshoot, escalate and resolve technical issues with the Linux estate
  • Assist with migration of server environments
  • Identify, prioritise and resolve Linux server issues
  • Work with the Application Support team to resolve support issues
  • Perform Linux and system maintenance activities as required
  • Log support requests with third-party vendors as required and manage them through to resolution
  • Adhere to customer policies, guidelines and standards in relation to the Linux Server Operating System

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience implementing, supporting and administering Red Hat and Oracle Linux Server environments
  • Experience patching Linux and providing support/troubleshooting
  • Experience of Linux Servers in a VMware and Oracle Virtualisation environments
  • Implementation of Linux patches and upgrades including Red Hat Repositories and Red Hat Subscription Management
  • Experience of managing and administering 24x7 Linux Server environments
  • Experience of data centre management: server racking, stacking , cabling
  • Experience edge of Linux hardware and software monitoring toolsets such as Nagios
  • Experience of Linux server backup and recovery procedures especially Commvault
  • Experience of Linux server security configuration and operation
  • Good working knowledge of a range of database management, server different operating systems and network configurations
  • Knowledge of shell scripting
