The Senior Field Application Engineer will collaborate with ADTRAN's ODM partners during the new product introduction (NPI) and mass production (MP) phases. Responsibilities include understanding and supporting the ODM's manufacturing processes, reviewing changes, and ensuring their implementation. They will manage PCN changes, inspect supplier quality based on production data, review ODM performance metrics, and validate production output. This role requires a strong understanding of hardware engineering or manufacturing, particularly with optical communication products, and involves leading initiatives in a global setting. Communication skills, including fluent English, are essential.
Must have:
  • Hardware engineering or manufacturing background.
  • Experience with optical communication products.
  • Familiarity with PCBA and optical assembly manufacturing.
  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering field.
  • Ability to lead initiatives in a global environment.
  • Fluent English in verbal and writing.

This Senior Field Application Engineer will work with ADTRAN’s ODM partner (T&W in the first instance, later with Xavi and GemTek) and their respective engineering and production functions during NPI (new product introduction) and MP (mass production) to run the following tasks:

Process support

  • Understand ODM’s manufacturing process and be aware of any changes ODM partner is introducing, review changes in the manufacturing process, and provide transparency to the impact. 

  • Understand new product introduction (NPI) process, milestones and deliverables.

  • Review process changes required from 8D reports and, working closely with ADTRAN HW engineering and architecture, ensure implementation. 

  • Understand Change Control Process and ensure implementation.


PCN change management

  • Understand and review any BoM changes (along with R&D ODM engineering in India), ensuring to capture relevant supplier component PCNs and assess the impact to our product portfolio (A-BoM, B-BoM etc)


Supplier inspection

  • Inspect supplier quality based on relevant and current production data and metrics and understand any impact on quality shipped in close cooperation with ADTRAN supplier quality and test development functions.


Reporting

  • Work with supplier quality engineering to review ODM performance metrics and scorecards and recommend corrective actions as appropriate.

Gatekeeper

  • Validate production output by an OLT-ONT test setup, supplier independent but on premises at supplier.  Run sanity tests on samples from production build, enhance ATP tests if needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Hardware engineering or manufacturing background, with three to five years of relevant experience with optical communication products.

  • Familiar with manufacturing process of PCBA and optical assembly

  • Bachelor degree or above in Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Self-driven, team player with the ability to lead initiatives in a global environment.   

  • Advanced analytical and strategic problem solving capabilities.

  • Communication skills must include fluent English in verbal and writing. 

  • ISO/TL audit experience or previous supplier quality work is a plus.
