Senior Server Engineer

Based in the heart of Leamington Spa, Pixel Toys have spent almost a decade pushing the capabilities of mobile and VR gaming. We have developed multiple award-winning titles, including: Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War; and we’re now excited to be exclusively working on a new game, unlike ANYTHING we’ve done previously!

The Role:

Join us as a Senior Server Engineer at Pixel Toys and play a pivotal role in developing robust and scalable backend systems, ensuring our server infrastructure delivers high performance and reliability.

Collaborating closely with Designers, Artists, and other Developers, you will integrate and optimise game systems, contributing to the overall quality and functionality of the current game project. Taking ownership of entire features and complex systems, you will lead planning and development from concept to deployment, ensuring technical excellence throughout.

Your responsibilities will also include profiling and optimising critical code, identifying bottlenecks and resolving compatibility issues to maintain the highest standards of technical quality. You will create clear and detailed technical designs, whilst actively seeking feedback and validation from your peers to ensure stability and maintainability.

As a key technical figure in the team, you will perform thorough code reviews, offering constructive feedback to uphold best practices and align development efforts with the project’s goals. You will also champion coding best practices across the team, advocating for robust, secure, and stable server infrastructure.

Additionally, you will be encouraged to continuously expand your technical expertise; particularly in C# .NET and AWS, and through doing so you will complement a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration at Pixel Toys.

On top of this, your deep understanding of the server tech stack will enable you to mentor junior engineers, helping them grow and develop by providing guidance and sharing knowledge.

About you:

With proficiency in an object-oriented programming language (such as C#), you will join us with a strong understanding of architectural patterns, coding standards, and modern development methodologies that guide engineering decisions.

You are comfortable working with monitoring tools (such as Datadog, Kibana, and PagerDuty etc.), ensuring server performance and system reliability. With practical knowledge of CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins, CodeBuild, Spinnaker, etc.), you will join us with experience in deploying and maintaining services on cloud platforms. With a solid understanding of databases and cloud infrastructure, you are well-versed in also applying security best practices consistently throughout the development and deployment cycle.

Thriving in an Agile environment, you will be confident working collaboratively while maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving. With excellent troubleshooting skills you're happy to take initiative in identifying issues and implementing effective solutions. 

Ultimately, you will bring a genuine passion for making games as well as for solving complex technical challenges. Your positive and enthusiastic mindset will contribute to a strong team dynamic.
