Job Description

The Business Developer will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships within the Belgian public sector. They will engage with decision-makers, understand their digital needs, and offer solutions. The role involves attending networking events, winning tenders, and creating go-to-market strategies. The developer will work with product teams to tackle technical questions and identify new opportunities. They will also pitch, negotiate, and close multi-stakeholder deals, becoming a trusted advisor to clients. This position requires a deep understanding of the digital landscape, public procurement, and the ability to communicate complex ideas. The developer should be able to work with different teams and departments.
Must Have:
  • Experience selling to digital leaders in the public sector.
  • Existing network of digital decision-makers within the public sector.
  • Understanding of digital challenges within the public sector.
  • Familiarity with public procurement processes.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong negotiation skills to reach consensus.
  • Proven ability to think and plan strategically.
  • Experience working with stakeholders in complex environments.
  • Honesty and commitment to delivering value.
  • Enjoys networking and building relationships.
  • Fluent in English and Dutch (French a plus).

In The Pocket is on the hunt for a digital-savvy Business Developer who targets the public sector. Your primary focus will revolve around building, nurturing and expanding relationships within the Belgian public sector. You’ll engage directly with decision-makers and inspire them on strategic, technical & user aspects to help them pave their digital roadmap. Backed by an experienced sales and marketing team, you’re up for the challenge of pushing premium digital products and In The Pocket to the top of the list of the Belgian public landscape.

How’s this going to work?

You won’t tackle these challenges on your own. You will become a full-blown part of our sales and marketing team. Additionally, you will work closely together with In The Pocket’s cross-functional product teams to understand and crack tough technical questions. With your own insights and experiences combined, you will detect fresh and exciting opportunities and ignite new collaborations.


What you’ll do:

  • Build, maintain and expand relationships with public organisations and institutions to detect new opportunities early.
  • Attend networking events where digital leaders from the public sector meet up.
  • Inspire digital decision-makers within the public sector by outlining a clear path to digital improvement. 
  • Win tenders and framework contracts for In The Pocket with the full support of an internal pre-sales team. 
  • Draw up a go-to-market strategy together with the Business Development Manager and the rest of the sales and marketing team. 
  • Pitch, negotiate and close complex multi-stakeholder deals.
  • Becoming a trusted advisor and challenger for prospective clients.

Who you are:

  • You have experience in selling services to digital leaders in the public sector.
  • You already have a network of digital decision makers within the public sector.
  • You have a thorough understanding of the digital challenges, plans and goals within the public sector.
  • You’re familiar with public procurement processes.
  • You can translate complex technical concepts into a language that non-technical stakeholders can understand.
  • You have strong negotiation skills and the ability to reach consensus among different stakeholders.
  • You have a proven ability to think and plan at a strategic level.
  • You have experience working with several stakeholders in complex environments, with the ability to bridge gaps between different teams and departments.
  • You are an honest person that ensures we take ownership of the projects we work on, and strive to always deliver and demonstrate value.
  • You thrive on network events, building new relationships and connections.
  • You speak and write English & Dutch fluently. French is a big plus.
