Job Description

The Graphics Engineer will collaborate with artists and engineers to design, research, schedule, and implement rendering features. They will optimize and polish existing graphics features, solve rendering problems, and maintain current systems within the in-house graphics engine and tools. The company, based in Middlesbrough, UK, focuses on creating engaging games and fosters a collaborative and creative environment. The role involves working on the new game 'Southfield' and contributing to a team of over 60 talented individuals. The role is a 12-month contract with the potential for extension.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of game industry programming experience.
  • Strong knowledge of C++, graphics engine, and shader programming.
  • Familiarity with global lighting and dynamic lighting concepts.
  • 3D math skills and passion for graphics programming.
  • Ability to write clear, maintainable, and portable code.
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of rendering APIs (D3D12, Vulkan).
  • Experience with MMOs.
  • Strong debugging skills.

Our Mission

Radical Forge is a Middlesbrough, UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021, the company created its first original IP, 'Brightpaw', which Rogue Games published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google, and iOS. The studio is currently working on the much-anticipated silly, physics-based, sandbox farming game, 'Southfield'.

Since its beginnings in 2017, the company has grown to over 60 incredibly talented, collaborative, and creative individuals. We are the sum of our skills, passion, and, most of all, our people. Your Mission

  • Work closely with artists and engineers to design, research, schedule and implement rendering features
  • Help optimise and polish existing graphics features
  • Finding solutions to rendering problems and maintaining our current systems
  • Work within on our new in-house graphics engine and tools


Ideal Applicant

  • 3+ years game industry programming experience
  • Strong knowledge of C++, graphics engine & shader programming models & dedicated languages such as HLSL
  • Familiarity with global lighting methods, dynamic lighting, shadow rendering and similar concepts
  • 3D math skills
  • Passion for graphics programming and staying on top of current techniques
  • Ability to write clear, maintainable, portable code
  • Must be a self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic and cooperative attitude
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of rendering APIs (D3D12, Vulkan)
  • Experience with MMOs, as a player or developer
  • Strong debugging skills




This role is fully remote.

The role will initially be a 12 month contract with the potential to extend after this.

About The Company

A northern game studio founded in 2017 by Technical Artist Bruce Slater and Unity Engineer Freddie Babord.

Radical Forge was set up to be a safe haven for game developers to grow creatively, be treated with respect, and have transparency in leadership. Our studio values are why we’ve been able to grow the studio to over 70 employees who work in our Middlesbrough office and remotely.

We work to a AAA standard and have worked for hire on some of the most well-known games in the world such as Sea of Thieves, Minecraft Dungeons, Zombie Army 4, and Rust: Console Edition.

We’re not only a co-development studio, we also create our own original IPs. In 2020, we released the cat detective puzzle game Bright Paw, which was published by Rogue Games.

We’re now working on our largest project to date, our own unannounced IP which has been funded by the Private Division Development Fund.
