The position focuses on component delivery, engineering, and new build programs for the Submarine Build Facility, contributing to the Dreadnought and SSN-AUKUS programs. Responsibilities include leading manufacturing strategy development and execution, ensuring safety, quality, cost, and delivery, and improving manufacturing processes to enhance throughput, efficiency, and resilience.

Job Title: Manufacturing Manager

Working Pattern: 37 hours Days

Working location: Raynesway Derby

We are seeking a dynamic senior leader with previous demonstrated manufacturing experiences of delivery and has proven active leadership in a growth organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growing nuclear business, supporting delivery of National Defence priorities and incredible new technologies.

Our Submarines business is world leading in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's Nuclear Submarine Fleet.  It is the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance, and through-life support.

This senior role sits with the New Build & Components (NB&C) business unit, which is responsible for Component Delivery, Engineering and New Build Programmes, delivery key components to the Submarine Build Facility in Barrow. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of delivering Dreadnought and SSN-AUKUS programme and the creation of a new manufacturing facility.

What you will be doing:

  • You will lead development and execution of the manufacturing strategy to ensure both current and future requirements can be met in terms of growth, partnerships, improved performance & people capabilities. 
  • You will be accountable for all aspects of Safety, Quality , Cost, Deliver and People within your areas of the Business.
  • You will lead, develop and engage across multi-functional teams to address the challenges of manufacturing critical reactor components.
  • You will lead manufacturing improvement to deliver improved throughput, efficiency and resilience to support the demanding Submarine Production Programme.
  • You will lead the planning and balancing of load and capacity balance in the long term to meet the demands to achieve the business strategy.       

Who we’re looking for:

  • Significant manufacturing roles across a range of relevant functional areas, demonstrating breadth of experience and of implementing change at pace.
  • Experience of working in a growth organisation and demonstrated transformational projects.
  • Has a proven track record delivering improved operational performance.
  • Attended higher education and leadership development programmes for senior or high potential leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role for engineering in an international business.
  • You have a safety-first mindset, with knowledge of health and safety standards and product integrity.
  • Commercially astute with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance.  Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.  Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
