Job Description

The Paralegal will support a wide variety of legal matters for the EMEA Law Department with an emphasis on corporate administration, including tracking filings, assisting with company strike offs, and preparing board meeting materials. They will also assist with commercial matters, such as preparing and reviewing agreements. Other responsibilities include document retention, insurance administration, legal budget processing, IP support, and DPA registration. The position requires at least 2 years of experience as a paralegal and involves a wide range of legal support tasks.
Must have:
  • Minimum of 2 years paralegal experience
  • Ability to manage multiple legal matters
  • Follow detailed instructions and procedures
  • Excellent skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Dutch
Good to have:
  • Willingness to learn new subjects
  • Positive attitude and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of Turkish and/or Arabic

The Team

We’re seeking a motivated, conscientious and talented Paralegal with demonstrated skills in supporting a wide variety of legal matters.  This is an opportunity to work in the Mattel EMEA Law Department and assist in supporting various regulatory, compliance and commercial related matters. The position will report to the Sr. Director Legal Affairs in The Netherlands.

Job Description

Support a wide variety of legal matters for the EMEA Law Department with emphasis on:

Corporate Administration

Company Secretarial Support to include:

  • Tracking and processing Confirmation statements and other Companies House filings
  • Assisting with Company strike offs/ liquidations  
  • Assisting with various corporate governance matters, including corporate governance research, the preparation and delivery of materials for Board meetings and Board minutes
  • Responsibility for Statutory Books maintenance
  • Maintain electronic Records (HCue) and internal reporting and recording of corporate information
  • Assisting preparation, review, execution and tracking of Powers of Attorney which may include legalisation and notarisation of documents.

Commercial

Supporting all areas of the commercial business including:

  • Assisting with the preparation, review, execution and tracking of master services agreements, engagement letters, statements of work, powers of attorney, exceptions letters to agreements, and non-disclosure agreements
  • Ensure all agreements are in final version, fully signed, logged and filed renewed or destroyed as needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Document retention: maintain list of and train new department coordinators.
  • Insurance: act as central administration point for insurance and liaise with insurance companies to manage historic insurance claims
  • Legal budget: process and log all invoices
  • IP support: to include evidence gathering and internal reporting of IP infringement
  • DPA: maintaining and renewing annual DPA registration
  • Modern Slavery Act and other non-financial reporting requirements support:  to include, set up training, draft Board Minutes and obtain signatures for the Modern Slavery Statement to be posted online. Support UK work related to eliminating Modern Slavery and updating the Statement each year. Keep up to date Registers online with the relevant authorities.

As the need arises or over time to develop broader expertise, the position will have the potential to branch out into other areas, including supply chain, procurement and certain compliance related matters, as well as special projects.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a paralegal or contract administrator at a law firm or company law department on a wide variety of legal matters
  • Ability to support wide variety of practice areas and manage multiple matters
  • Ability to follow specific, detailed instructions and standardized practices and procedure. 
  • Willingness to branch out into new subject matters as the need arises
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues and elevate as appropriate
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and take matters through to their successful conclusion
  • Provide timely responses to issues and questions arising
  • Communicate effectively in person and in writing with attention to detail
  • Leadership and organization skills, including planning, prioritization and time management
  • Ability to work as part of the Law Department and Company team
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, in writing and in person, with support staff, management, and outside counsel
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues around the world
  • Curiosity and Growth, be humble, continue to learn on the job and be receptive to constructive feedback.
  • Positive attitude
  • Technical skills: excellent in Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Language skills: excellent in English and Dutch, preferably also in Turkish and/or Arabic
