Job Title: Performance Engineer - Product Assurance

Working Pattern: Full Time

Working location: Indianapolis, IN - Hybrid - 3 Office Days/Week

The Product Assurance team is seeking a Performance Engineer to support production test. As a Performance Engineer, you will support the business operations by enabling the business to manage the health of the products using engine test parameters, knowledge of operational definition, and the data integration process. This is a data driven role ideal for individuals with a data focus and an interest in / knowledge of gas turbine engines.

The Performance & Environmental Protection Engineer (EPPEPE) role is part of the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function.

The EPPEPE role involves design, simulation and verification of engines/aircraft at whole system level to predict and verify emergent system attributes which arise from the integration of sub-system components.

The role encompasses a wide range of technical activities ranging from development of models from engineering first principles, 1D thermodynamic simulation, empirical modelling, detailed 3D CFD assessment, understanding of certification requirements and physical testing. In addition, the role requires integration skills to allow requirements, data and product understanding to be gathered and disseminated across various stake holders (e.g. internal sub-system and component teams, airframers, regulatory authorities and customers).

What you will be doing

  • Performing functional pass-off analysis to monitor the production gas turbine engine test system performance, oil and fuel systems, and vibration, and coordinate with production operations team to address any issues observed in the test data and test facilities.
  • Working with the production operation and test groups to manage test cell certification for production engines.
  • Developing production pass-off data reduction programs in collaboration with the Core / Program Performance teams and other various groups.
  • Developing tools, trend algorithms and data analysis techniques to detect and predict test cell and pass-off issues and collaborating with fleet support engineers.
  • Performing system level analysis and resolving engineering investigation, safety alert report, red top support, publishing technical reports, and conducting technical presentation of engineering analysis to both internal and external customers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science and 2+ year of experience, OR
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Science, OR
  • JD/PhD
  • Must be U.S. Citizen  
  • Ability to travel domestically

Preferred Requirements:

  • Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with propulsion gas turbine performance and test analysis experience.
  • Experience with computational modelling, JMP, SQL, Python, Visual Basic, and FORTRAN
  • Knowledge of the production pass-off performance and vibration data analysis process for Rolls-Royce Indianapolis products.
  • Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and having an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition.
  • An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters.
