Job Description

Flow is seeking a Platform Engineering Manager to lead and scale infrastructure and platform initiatives. This role requires an experienced engineering leader to empower their team in building foundational tools, frameworks, and automation for faster and more confident product shipping while maintaining high standards for availability, scalability, and performance. As part of the engineering leadership team, the manager will shape the technical platform direction, drive cross-functional collaboration, and foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD

About the Role

We are looking for a Platform Engineering Manager to lead and scale our infrastructure and platform efforts. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of software development and systems reliability. You’ll empower your team to build foundational tools, frameworks, and automation that make it easier for Flow’s product teams to ship with speed and confidence—while maintaining high standards for availability, scalability, and performance. As a member of the engineering leadership team, you’ll shape the direction of our technical platform, drive cross-functional collaboration, and foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Set the strategic direction for Flow’s infrastructure and platform services. Make high-level architectural decisions that balance performance, scalability, cost, and reliability.
  • Team Management & Development: Hire, mentor, and lead a team of skilled platform engineers. Create a growth-oriented environment that values technical rigor, collaboration, and ownership.
  • Infrastructure & Automation: Champion infrastructure-as-code and build scalable, self-healing systems that support high development velocity and operational consistency.
  • Reliability Engineering: Drive reliability best practices across the organization, including SLIs, SLOs, and incident response. Implement systems that enable graceful failure and rapid recovery.
  • Observability & Monitoring: Lead the development of comprehensive observability tooling—monitoring, logging, and tracing—to provide visibility into system health and performance.Operational Excellence: Establish strong operational processes, playbooks, and documentation that enable consistent and predictable execution.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, security, and operations teams to understand their needs and build platform solutions that unlock productivity and efficiency.
  • Technical Debt Management: Proactively identify and address infrastructure bottlenecks and areas of technical debt to ensure long-term scalability and maintainability.

Ideal Background
  • Technical Expertise: 8+ years of experience in software engineering, site reliability, or infrastructure roles with a deep understanding of modern cloud-native systems (AWS, GCP, Azure). Expertise in Kubernetes, containers, infrastructure-as-code, and microservice architectures.
  • Leadership Experience: 2+ years of people management experience, including hiring, mentoring, and leading platform or infrastructure teams.
  • System Reliability: Proven track record of improving service reliability, building monitoring systems, and leading incident response efforts in production environments.
  • DevOps & Automation: Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Clear communicator who can translate complex technical concepts to stakeholders at all levels. Experience working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and operations teams.
