Responsibilities include building and maintaining global relationships with scientists, representing the company at conferences, leading content acquisition initiatives, managing vendor relationships, and supporting sales and product teams. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in Materials Science or a related field, a strong understanding of scientific data workflows, and excellent communication and collaboration skills. Familiarity with data tools like NLP or data mining is a plus.

About the role

Springer Nature’s Data and Analytics Solutions division is looking for a driven and detail-oriented Product Manager – Scientific Content Acquisition to join our Materials Solutions team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Materials Science (or closely related fields), a solid understanding of scientific data workflows, and a passion for building and nurturing relationships across the global scientific community. You will play a key role in identifying, engaging, and collaborating with researchers, institutions, and content providers to bring high-quality scientific data into our platforms—supporting innovation and discovery across academia and industry.

Role Responsibilities:

Scientific Networking & Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with scientists, researchers, and subject matter experts worldwide to foster long-term collaborations.
  • Represent Springer Nature in relevant scientific communities, conferences, and working groups to stay informed of emerging trends and potential partnerships.
  • Initiate and lead discussions with external stakeholders to explore innovative models for content sharing, co-development, and data integration.

Content Acquisition & Project Oversight

  • Lead the acquisition of scientific data from external collaborators, including academic experts and commercial vendors.
  • Define project scopes, data requirements, and timelines for content acquisition initiatives.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including contract negotiation, deliverables tracking, and payment coordination.
  • Oversee project progress and ensure data quality and alignment with platform standards and user needs.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Support sales and product teams with onboarding, training, and customer demos when needed.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers by providing subject matter expertise and feedback on data presentation and usability.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Established global network within the Materials Science research community.
  • Strong understanding of scientific data, data extraction techniques, and content quality assurance.
  • Willingness to travel for conferences, customer/vendor visits, and collaboration meetings.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to effectively work with diverse teams, stakeholders, and researchers.
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to work with other teams in a global matrix environment.
  • Ability to turn complex problems into robust, workable solutions and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Familiarity with data tools and technologies (e.g., natural language processing, data mining, structured data formats) is a plus.
