Job Summary
Job Description
The Senior Engineer is responsible for developing software across various platforms and products, and will approve code from junior engineers. This role involves partnering with other engineers to provide guidance on best practices, ensure tasks are well-documented, and maintain a consistent technical strategy. The Senior Engineer uses their skills to deliver technical outcomes that align with the team's direction to further Life.Church's mission of reaching people for Christ. The Digital Product Team leverages technology to connect people worldwide to the ministry through websites, apps, and church locations.
Must have:
- Develop organizational software using appropriate tools.
- Collaborate with teams for technical approach and development plans.
- Evaluate task complexity and provide realistic estimates.
- Manage software release processes.
- Oversee contractors and vendors.
- Provide support to other engineers through code reviews.
- Partner with junior engineers for training and guidance.
- Ensure engineers align on technical direction.
- Maintain strategic outlook for future development.
- Provide technical support for escalated issues.
- Research industry best practices and new technologies.
Good to have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Expert in Java (Kotlin preferred) and modern development frameworks (Spring Kotlin).
- Experience with secrets management and background job scheduling.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL.
- Experience with cloud platforms like GCP and cloud technologies like Cloud Function and Kubernetes.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Systematic and organized approach to assignments.
- Ability to explain complex processes concisely.
- Self-motivated with initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate and work independently.
- Ability to maintain composure under stress.
- Own technical design for projects and understand tradeoffs.

This role will partner with other engineers to offer guidance on best practices, ensure that tasks are well thought out and documented and that the team has the same technical strategy. The Senior Engineer utilizes their skills to deliver technical outcomes that align with the direction of their team to further Life.Church’s mission and to reach people for Christ.

The Digital Product Team leverages technology to reach people worldwide, connecting them to our ministry and each other through our website, apps, and all Life.Church locations. Our apps serve our attenders by connecting them with our church and helping facilitate their growth as a fully devoted follower of Christ. It doesn't get much better than that!
What You'll Do
- Develop organizational software by using the appropriate tools and techniques for each platform in span of care.
- Collaborate with various teams and team members to determine the technical approach and to organize development plans.
- Evaluate complexity of tasks and provide realistic estimates on level of effort and completion time.
- Manage the release process of any software changes.
- Oversee contractors, vendors, and/or volunteers who are working within the domain of Life.Church products.
- Provide support to other Interactive engineers through code and architectural reviews.
- Partner with junior and mid-level engineers to offer training and guidance on best practices.
- Help ensure that other engineers are moving in the same technical direction.
- Maintain strategic outlook to plan for future development of processes and team.
- Provide technical support on escalated software issues.
- Research industry best practices and new technologies or tools that could be implemented at Life.Church.
Skills Needed to Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of related work experience.
- Expert in Java (Kotlin preferred) & modern development frameworks, including Spring Kotlin.
- Experience with secrets management, background job scheduling systems, and familiarity with Microsoft SQL.
- Experience in cloud platforms, such as GCP and cloud technologies, such as Cloud Function, and Kubernetes.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to maintain relationships and partnerships.
- Maintain a systematic and organized approach to completing assignments accurately, thoroughly, and timely.
- Clearly explain complicated and detailed processes in a concise and simple way.
- Ability to self-motivate, take initiative, make independent decisions, and problem-solve.
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment and work independently.
- Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
- Own technical design for projects and understands, and articulates, the tradeoffs in creating high-quality software.
