Enphase Energy is seeking a Staff Engineer-Mechanical to join their India-based team. The role involves leading the mechanical design and testing of modules for Energy Storage Batteries, System Controllers, Accessories, and IoT-based products. Responsibilities include designing and developing electro-mechanical products using polymers, metals, and rubbers, interfacing with PCBs and high-power components. The engineer will also plan, perform, analyze, and report on design verification testing (DVT) using internal and external labs, and resolve field failures while identifying cost-reduction opportunities. The position focuses on designing, validating, and testing new electromechanical products, managing mechanical projects, and performing tasks such as design concepts, CAD activities, testing, and documentation.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 6-8+ years of industry experience in product design
  • SolidWorks and EPDM experience
  • Experience in design and testing of electromechanical products
  • Knowledge of DFM for parts made through injection molding, sheet metal, stamping, casting, milling/turning
  • Good understanding of cable assemblies and ECAD/MCAD integrations
  • Good exposure to structural and thermal design considerations
  • Experienced on DFX for high volume production
  • Good exposure on prototype techniques
  • Clear communication (verbal and written)
Good to have:
  • Masters in Product Design from IISc/Postgraduate on Tool Engineering/Tool Design/Product Design from NTTF/GTTC or ME in Design/Thermal is a plus
  • Experience in the design and sustaining activities on high-volume products (+500k pa) is a plus
  • Previous employment in high-power and consumer products industries is a plus
  • Exposure to electrical and electronic testing with knowledge on thermocouple instrumenting
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and DFR
  • Good exposure on UL/IEC and related standards, specifically UL1741, IL9540, UL 9540A
  • Experience in testing international standards like UL 1741, UL 6703, UL 9703, EN 60512, EN 60352, UL 94, UL 746C, IEC 60529/IPXX/NEMA
  • Exposure to CAE tools

About the role:

 

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our India-based team. You will lead the mechanical design and testing of modules for Energy Storage Batteries,System Controllers, Accessories, and IoT-based products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electro-mechanical products using polymers, metals, and rubbers, interfacing with PCBs and high-power components.
  • Plan, perform, analyze, and report design verification testing (DVT) using both in-house and external labs and preparing high quality reports
  • Investigate and resolve field failures and identify cost-reduction opportunities.

 

 

What you will do:

 

  • Design, Validation and Testing of new Electromechanical products sometimes as sole contributor and often as part of a team of contributors.
  • Work with Cross functional team and provide quick solutions ensuring quality
  • Manage assigned mechanical projects, adhering to project timelines, budget constraints, and quality standards.
  • Perform day-to-day tasks like Design Concepts and documentation, CAD (3D & 2D) activities, Testing and reports, DoE, CAPA, 8D, DFMEA etc
  • In-depth knowledge on Design Principles and good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) of parts made through injection moulding, sheet metal, stamping, Casting, milling/turning etc
  • Product design & testing (DVT) , Testing proof-of-concepts and prototypes for performance
  • Coordinate and Preparing mechanical mock-ups, Prototypes, Electro-mechanical assemblies, Cable Assemblies
  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans (Inhouse and external lab) to verify mechanical performance against design specifications, including static and dynamic loading, fatigue testing, environmental testing, and reliability testing. Analyze test data, identify potential issues, and implement design improvements
  • Failure analysis and root cause identification

 

 

Who you are and what you bring:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher qualification) in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates holding Masters in Product Design from IISc/Postgraduate on Tool Engineering/Tool Design/Product Design from NTTF/GTTC or ME in Design/Thermal is a plus
  • 8+ years (with BE / BS) or 6+ years (with Masters) of industry work experience in product design, development & testing.
  • Ability to plan, lead and drive the Design and DVT tasks and activities independently with minimal supervision/oversight.
  • Experience in SolidWorks and EPDM. Knowledge on any other CAD packages will be an added advantage.
  • Hands on is preparing mechanical mock-ups, Prototypes, Electro-mechanical assemblies, Cable Assemblies and test sample preparation
  • Hands on Experience on Design & testing Electromechanical products
  • Hands on Experience on plastics, Sheetmetal, casting part design and manufacturing process
  • Good understanding on cable assemblies, ECAD/MCAD integrations
  • Good exposure on structural and thermal design considerations
  • Experienced on DFX for high volume production. Experience in the design and sustaining activities on high-volume products (+500k pa) would be a plus and also previous employment in high-power and consumer products industries would be a plus.
  • Good exposure on prototype techniques for Design development and verification
  • Exposure to electrical and electronic testing with knowledge on thermocouple instrumenting and connecting to Data logging equipment for capturing test data.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and DFR would be an added advantage.
  • Good exposure on UL/IEC and related standards. Experience on UL1741, IL9540, UL 9540A will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in testing below international standards is desirable (but not limited to).
    • Inverters UL 1741, Electrical connectors UL 6703, UL 9703, EN 60512, EN 60352; Polymers UL 94, UL 746C.
    • Ingress protection IEC 60529/IPXX/NEMA Enclosure standards
  • Exposure on CAE tools is an added advantage.
  • Clear communication - verbal and written
