As a Senior Quality Engineer – Test Automation Specialist, you will translate customer needs into new products and capabilities. You will use your technical expertise in software application layer solutions to develop and deliver scalable design blueprints across the software development lifecycle. Your responsibilities include leading the shift-left movement, teaching teams to write high-quality code, mentoring teams and driving best practices, architecting test automation frameworks, optimizing CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring systems can handle anything by diving deep into performance, security, and reliability testing.
Must have:
  • Build automation frameworks using Java, Selenium, Playwright, Cucumber, RestAssured.
  • Strong knowledge of TDD, BDD, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Design and build scalable automation frameworks for distributed systems.
Good to have:
  • Experience in implementing AI-driven test automation.
  • Experience with Github, Copilot & LLM
  • Experience in performance and load testing of applications.

As a Senior Quality Engineer – Test Automation Specialist, you thrive on understanding and translating customer needs into new products and capability. You apply deep technical expertise and experience in software application layer solutions, to develop and deliver scalable design blueprints across the end-to-end software development life cycle. Your continuous learning and improvement mindset, collaboration and influencing skills are critical to success in this role.

What You’ll do:

Product & Technology - Software Engineering & IT develops and maintains Telstra's software and IT systems, working on some really cutting-edge technologies

  • Lead the shift-left movement—bake quality into development from day one. You'll take the lead in embedding quality from the very first line of code!
  • Teach & inspire teams to write testable, high-quality code and implement automation smartly (TDD, BDD, unit testing space —you name it!).
  • Be the quality evangelist in Telstra—mentor teams, drive best practices, and set the standard for test automation. Coach and mentor developers, teaching them how to test better and earlier.
  • Architect rock-solid test automation frameworks that scale across microservices, APIs, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Collaborate, innovate, and challenge the norm—quality is a team sport here, and you’ll help level up the entire engineering squad in Telstra.
  • Optimize CI/CD pipelines with intelligent automation that reduces manual intervention. Be the go-to expert on quality—from test strategies to DevSecOps pipelines, you’ll set the gold standard.
  • Dive deep into performance, security, and reliability testing to ensure our systems can handle anything.
  • Improve test efficiency by eliminating flaky tests and ensuring reliable automation across platforms.
  • Stay on top of emerging tech, introducing innovative testing approaches to make quality engineering smarter.

What We’re Looking for

  • A problem-solver who thrives in complex, large-scale projects and challenges the status quo, and shaking things up for the better. 
  • A Continuous learner, eager to grow and make an impact
  • A hands-on expert in building test automation framework using Java, Selenium, Playwright, Cucumber, RestAssured, API/Microservice testing, you make quality seamless through code.
  • Strong knowledge of TDD, BDD, and CI/CD pipelines—because testing is part of development, not an afterthought. (preferably gitlab or Bamboo)
  • You've designed and built scalable automation frameworks that keep up with fast-moving, distributed systems. 
  • Passion for mentoring and coaching teams— You'll help developers level up their test-first mindset and write rock-solid quality-oriented code.
  • Strong database skills (preferably SQL, Oracle, AWS RDS), performance testing expertise, and understanding of infrastructure testing.
  • Ability to collaborate with leadership, developers, and product teams to drive quality as a culture.
  • Deep experience in DevOps, cloud platforms (AWS preferably), and microservices contract testing - you know how modern apps should be tested.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools like Terraform or Ansible.

  • You've helped build a quality-first culture in previous roles.
  • Experience in implementing any AI-driven test automation to enhance productivity.
  • Experience with Github, Copilot & LLM
  • You have a solid grasp of security testing and validating AI results—and you're not afraid to dive in and get hands-on when needed.
  • You’ve dabbled in AI-driven test automation (or are super keen to learn it).
  • Experience in performance and load testing of applications and API’s at super crazy volumes.
